Top tips for driving in wind

Wind is often one of the worst weather conditions to drive in,
unless motorists know how to travel safely.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered a number of
tips to avoid making a car
insurance claim in the wind, such as choosing routes that are
well sheltered.
This will help lessen the impact of cross winds, which can often
come as a surprise after passing high-sided vehicles or large
buildings.
Another thing to bear in mind is that cyclists, motorcyclists,
lorries and buses will need a little extra room than usual to
manoeuvre, as they will be blown from side to side.
"I have seen a parked car moved by the wind. Don't
underestimate how powerful it is and how it can affect you whilst
in the car," commented IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger.
Other helpful tips include keeping an eye on what is happening to
other vehicles, as this will give motorists an idea as to what lies
ahead.
