How can you while away a rainy day?

Published: 07 September 2012

Holidays in the UK present endless possibilities and, whenever you get the chance, it is always nice to hitch up your caravan and head off on a trip.

However, British weather is world-renowned for its temperamental nature, so from time to time you may experience a downpour.

Nevertheless, you should never let the rain dampen your spirits and there are plenty of things you can do to keep entertained on a rainy day.

Prepare

Bad weather can't stop you enjoying your holiday if you don't let it, so one way to ensure your plans aren't interrupted by a spot of rain is to prepare.

Create an itinerary with an option for each day come rain or shine. As long as you pack some waterproof clothes you should be able to do pretty much everything you wanted to anyway - except sunbathing, of course.

Games

If the weather is truly torrential then you may have to stay inside and having a few games up your sleeve will be essential to stop boredom setting in, especially if you have young children.

It's always good practice to pack some board games when you're going on a caravan trip anyway, and these will definitely come in handy if temperatures plummet and the sky opens.

Cards are also a must-have and you'll be amazed how much they'll come in use, even if the weather stays fine!

If your family isn't one for the classics, computer games are sure to keep children entertained.

A good book

Holidays are a great chance to catch up on some reading and a rainy day could be the excuse you need to bury yourself in a good novel.

It's always a good idea to encourage children to bring along a couple of books during caravanning trips as well and you'll certainly be thankful of these should the weather take a turn for the worst.

The art of conversation

One of the best things you can do when spending time indoors is to have a proper conversation with loved ones.

Children will love the chance to hear old family stories and you can be sure to have a chuckle as you relive past memories.
