Why stay here ...

This conveniently located site near the western coast of Portugal, is an ideal location for families and winter sun seekers. The city of Porto which is only 18km away is steeped in history, with lots of ancient houses, narrow cobbled streets and baroque buildings to view. It’s also renowned for its port cellars, with many port tasting tours available for visitors to sample local vintages. There is a bus service from the campsite entrance which reaches Porto in around 75 minutes.

The pitches are shaded by trees, of which some are on a slope and there are various facilities including a restaurant which serves local Portuguese cuisine that is also popular with locals. There are a number of pitches on site used as seasonal or even permanent set up for local residents, and these may not be as well maintained as standard pitches. The site is also a short walk from the golden sands of Praia Azul, which is popular with both families and surfers.

Disappointing.....

Angeiras
Staff are very helpful but the site is in need of some TLC..... The pitches are on multi levels & accessing the shower blocks is not always on a level path which could be a problem for people with mobility issues.... however, they were clean. There are what I can describe as 'seasonal' vehicles (because they have been there a very long time, sinking into the ground) literally rotting away & are a complete eyesore. However, it does appear to be a popular place but personally I failed to see the attraction. Pool area is a large space, as is restaurant but we used neither. The journey into Porto via bus & train was an 'experience'..... bus journey was long & once we got to the station, purchasing a ticket was an experience, as there was only 1 machine, trains are frequent but locals were becoming impatient as they were missing them..... The highlight was eating at Casa da Guripa in the village where we were well looked after by Bruno.

Good site for Porto

Angeiras
Read previous reviews and while not disagreeing with comments I quite liked this site. Their are clearly designated pitches. The toilets are clean. The bar and restaurant are good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Easy walk to beaches and to many great seafood restaurants. Town not the prettiest but not commercialised. Great fish market that is absolutely buzzing with the locals etc Good walks/cycle rides along the coast (which is the Portuguese Camino). Bus from entrance takes just over an hour to Porto for euros1.60 and runs regularly. Last bus back around 7pm. Site give you timetable. Portuguese arrive at weekend and it is noisier and busier than during the week and please note we visited in June. I can imagine a lot noisier in July/August.

a Winter Week by the Sea

Angeiras
We stayed here for a week in February 2019. (Older couple) It only rained once during while we were there. It was pleasantly warm during the day although chilly at night. We were given a wide choice of pitches and opted for one on the upper level of the site. All the pitches seemed to be quite uneven. A significant number of dilapidated permanent units gives a bad impression looking around the site. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. All of the reception staff spoke good English. It would be helpful if the brochure gave dates when the facilities advertised are available. The pool and supermarket are not open at the moment. Also, Angeiras is closer to 18 kilometres from Porto rather than the 8 given in the brochure. It is very near the airport and planes start taking off at 5:am each morning. Some might find this a problem. We need to use the disabled facilities. On the upper level these are in a block which is accessed over a very undulating, badly maintained, cobbled pathway. Anyone in a wheelchair or with mobility problems would find it difficult. The disabled door handle had been replaced by one that needs very nimble fingers to operate. (there was no way of shutting the door on the lower disabled facilities - both points reported to staff and entered in repairs book) also no hooks or a chair to put clothes on while showering in what is essentially a wet room. Otherwise toilets etc very clean and abundant supply of hot water. Several excellent seafood restaurants open in the village 700 metres from site entrance - reasonably priced. Local bus to Porto takes coast road where there is tons of parking and great beaches - cost €1.60 each way. Drivers very helpful. We would definitely consider staying there again.

Stayed here to visit Porto

Angeiras
We are a family of 4 and stayed here for three nights. Our children enjoyed the pool; the coastline (5 min walk away) is attractive but there were not many people in the sea possibly as the water was cold and it was windy. Local village lively in the evening with many places to eat and the fish was good, also had fishmonger but not much else in terms of provisions but there is good Continente in Lavra. Cycling possible along seafront. Long bus ride to Porto but you get to see a lot of the local area for just 1.60 euro and Porto is well worth visiting. Mix of people staying here which adds a bit of interest, including seasonal pitches, pilgrims over nighting in huts, tourers and a few motorhomes. We were able to choose our pitch which turned out to be just fine. Mostly quiet and not as busy as it looks except for Sat night when entertainment was put on in restaurant which we opted out of. Site was tired and neglected in places and not somewhere we would return to, in fact plenty of parking nearby for motorhomes if you dont mind being independent..

A Disappointing Experience

Angeiras
First be clear that the Restaurant and the Swimming pool are adjacent to this site and not part of it. The restaurant reminded us of Fawlty Towers (Architect Designed??). It caters primarily for 'Pilgrims' on the Santiago trail. The food is dreadful, and 'Manuel' the waiter has the memory of a goldfish when it comes to taking orders. The owner 'Basil' goes around in his long apron 'fawning' to the 'pelegrinos' and ignores other customers. After 1 hour and 45 minutes we left having still not received any food. Instead go to the 'Atlantico' restaurant down by the beach the fish is excellent. There is currently no shop on site. There is a crummy little supermarket about 15 minutes walk away. Access to pitches is complicated, don't stray too far from the entrance towing. Sanitation blocks are OK and kept clean but not central to the usable pitches. Staff are friendly and helpful, however on the morning we left we turned up at the barrier at about 08.10 (advertised time of reception opening 08.00). at 08.35 a little fat cigar smoking man - clearly the boss - turned up and eventually opened reception and the barrier. Not a word of apology for the delay. There is a bus service at the gate to Porto. Overall a disappointing experience
