Very Tranquil Site

One of those sites that, if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't know existed, set in a disused quarry the surrounding vista is amazing, very well located for all that Derbyshire has to offer, the site is clean and well kept by the friendly and efficient staff, immediately off site is the Country Park with lots of good walking and there are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites within easy reach. Buxton and Bakewell towns are well worth a visit for the array of shops, restaurants and leisure facilities, really look forward to visiting again as our recent 3 night stay was no where near enough to do this fantastic place justice.

A lovely site

We've just returned from our second stay at this site during this summer and have really enjoyed ourselves. Even though the weather has been very hot, as the sun goes down the temperature on site drops appreciably and this made for very pleasant sleeping conditions. Buxton is a fairly easy 30 min walk from the site, mainly downhill, with a discounted taxi service back for those who can't manage the climb. The site is very tidy, with very good facilities, spoilt only by the few guests that don't clean up after themselves - something that really annoys me and does, unfortunately, appear to be on the increase. However, the fantastic wardens are always there to sort this and together, they work hard to run a very good site. Great walking and cycling close by and the scenery round about is stunning. Finally, our 10-month-old grandson visited a club site for the first time and was very enthusiastic, especially with the beautiful Fairy Village. Thanks for a great stay. We'll be back!

A lovely site in a beautiful location

We had a lovely warm welcome from the site staff and chose a pitch on the edge of the site. The facilities block has been recently upgraded and is immaculate. We also loved the small 'fairy glen' in the centre of the site! There's plenty of walking through the adjacent country park and also it's an easy walk to Buxton. A lovely site in a beautiful part of the country.

Good stay despite weather

Pleasant welcome and very efficient check-in on arrival. Pitch and facilities good. Plenty of choice of pitches. Nice to see wardens turning away early arrivals, some turning up at 11.30 when it clearly states 13.00hrs on website and email prior to arrival. Only negative I have is that the male toilet block closing for cleaning at 10am, female 10.30 and some toilets and showers being closed off during the peak season. Surely closing the showers later in the day when the majority of visitors are off site would be better. Would recommend site and will return in the future.

Frequent Visitor

We visit this site frequently as it is only an hour from home and a great base. The facilities are very clean and the site itself is very tidy. The wardens are very helpful and friendly.

What a fantastic site

We arrived on site, wardens were the best, walking and cycling from site was great, walked into Buxton got a taxi back you will see why when you walk into Buxton, shop on site very naughty cakes, scones, and lots of other treats. Facilities were clean and tidy recently refurbished underfloor heating for colder times of the year. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short because of family bereavement, the wardens could not have been more helpful and kind. If you want peace and quite and a great site look no further.

Fantastic wardens go above and beyond

Had a fantastic 5 nights here and what a lovely peaceful site everywhere is clean to a high standard, The wardens are brilliant, the Pizza man comes once a week had the best ever pizza cooked in a wood oven, other nights there is fish & chips and home made curry night. The area is fantastic for walking with lots of places to visit. Definitely somewhere we will go back to. Don’t know if it’s good for families as we were there with none

Dire Weekend

This was our 'snagging' weekend with a new van, new awning, new windbreak. It started off so well, queuing at the door of reception whilst an ultra glamourous young lady was chatted up by the booking in warden. Quite brightened my day. And he was a happy, friendly soul even when dealing with an old curmudgeon like me. The weather was very, very blustery and we even had thunder and downpours too. We managed to erect the awning but the windbreak would've broken if we'd tried to erect it. After our first night I suspected that our brand new fridge wasn't very frigid. And so it proved to be. It was a dead fridge, its lights were on but there was nobody home. by the second evening we'd had to throw away fresh and smoked salmon, the remains of our milk, some expensive M&S burgers and half of a French cheese selection among other things. Whether on gas or 240V the fridge was heating but the interior wasn't chilling. We also discovered our new van oven took aeons to cook croissants and reverted to buying some from reception. The popup fish and chips were excellent and the pizza ok. So a dire weekend, none of which was the CMC's fault and which we should've expected on a snagging weekend. There were snags. UPDATE Praise to our dealer though. We reported the dead fridge Monday afternoon. Took the van to them Tuesday morning and they rang at 9am Wednesday to say a new fridge had been fitted and was tested overnight and working fine. So our next weekend should be better.

Lovely peaceful site in fantastic location

What a fantastic site, stunning setting, mature privacy planting, lovely and peaceful (when we were there during school term time) and a country park literally on the doorstep. All the facilities were super clean, great showers, free hairdryer. Staff very friendly and helpful, useful shop with local products and (expensive) baked goods. We walked into Buxton several times, always taking advantage of the £6 taxi ride back at club discount. Buxton itself was lovely to walk around with many great places to eat, Bakewell also very nice. We both enjoyed our tour of Poole's Caverns (walking distance from the club) and did some walks in the country park on various evenings. My only negative would be that there is virtually no mobile signal down in the site itself - we had to walk up the hill to make calls or receive emails. Based on the other poor reviews, we didn't bother purchasing wifi access which I think was a good move since most of the time my phone couldn't even detect the club wifi service whenever I checked.
