Thanks

Excellent wardens and great location - Carsington Water is a fantastic facility and good for cycling around although hilly in places. Plenty to do locally and good pub nearby "Black Horse Inn" - with reasonable prices and good food. Will go to this site again.

Top Marks!

We need to start by saying a huge THANK YOU to Mark the warden and his wife. We stayed at Carsington Friday to Sunday and on arrival to our pitch at around 5.30pm the caravan wouldn't unhitch, disaster! I went to ask the wardens for help and Mark came along to investigate. Yep, the caravan was definitely well and truly stuck onto the car! Mark rang an engineer for advice and we tried tirelessly to unhitch but it wasn't budging. Mark was so helpful and understanding, he allowed us to pitch up across a pitch and a parking space still attached over night with an action plan for the morning. Sure enough true to his word Mark was there in the morning for round two. Marks wife also came to check the kids were ok and offered them a couple of places they could wait in the warm while we tried to unhitch. Finally, after nearly two hours, success!! An event that could have easily ruined our weekend turned it into a very memorable one. It was a real team effort but we couldn't have done it without Mark. Every site needs a Mark! Thank you. Quiet during the week

We stayed Monday to Friday in August. We were surprised at how empty the site was but it meant it was lovely and quiet. I’m sure it’s very different at the weekend. We took bicycles as there is a cycle path around the reservoir and access to National Cycle Routes - we went on the Tissington Trail. There are not any pubs or food shops within walking distance so you need to be self-sufficient or have transport. Some food vans come on site but didn’t while we were there. Some of the pitches (especially in the serviced pitches area) were sloping (some in two directions) so you’re likely to need ramps. Some long, twin axle caravans struggled to get level. Outside of the serviced area, the pitches looked more level. The site is set in woodland and there is no noise from traffic. We would return. We can’t understand why it was so empty.

Excellent Site

Booked 3 nights. Two adults, two children. Needed accesible pitch with hardstanding. Superb location of accessible pitch opposite shower block. Weather dry, pitch was fine. Others who had been during earlier heavy downpour said it had been flooded in some areas. Not when we were there though. We packed late on 3rd night as heavy downpour predicted and we didn't fancy our chsnces packing away drenched awning with 2 kids. Left around 11.30pm. No issue. Security tags to get onsite provided security and peace of mind with secure deposit box for checkout. Very quiet. Great facilities. Two children's areas. We were conscious they were near other campers so limited play. (No footballs). Didn't take bikes but will next time as near to Carsington Water sports where we spent our days. Lovely walk in surrounding woods. Not wheelchair accessible but good steps with rails. Showering/Washing facilities great. Clean. Pot washing facilities good. We used indoor, had to queue as only space for 2. But that wasn't an issue. Only downside was no disabled assisted shower for our son other than in main block ladies (Dad wasnt with us, so not sure if one in mens). So he had to come in ladies with me. That was OK as he's 10 but not ideal for when he is older. Would prefer separate unisex accessible shower. Visiting burger van was very welcome after day kayaking. Great value/quality. Warden Lois was lovely and very helpful. Will definitely stay again.

Excellent site

Excellent site with welcoming staff. Quieter in the week with more families on the weekend. A lovely relaxed and safe feel to the site. Good quality food outlets invited into the site on certain days which were a welcome surprise. I’ve already recommended the site to friends and will definitely return in the future.

Only one night

We stayed here for one night in mid- May to break our journey to the Peak District. The site was very quiet and peaceful, set in trees and we chose a pitch with a view of the Reservoir. The facilities were clean. We had a lovely walk along the dam path to the Carsington Visitor Centre. We will be back to stay for longer.

Great place to relax.

Ok so we were helped by a fortnight of lovely weather but even so the site layout with pitches in small groups amongst the trees lends itself to a mostly peaceful air. Ok the peace was shattered on occasions when the site filled up for the B/hol weekend bringing with it an influx of small, yappy dogs which for some reason their owners felt it was appropriate to ignore but that’s not the site’s fault and seems to be an issue everywhere unfortunately. As dog owners ourselves, the site is well located with a good dog walk around the perimeter of the site as well as a number of walks available both from the site as well as having the Tissington & High Peak Trails plus the beautiful DoveDale within 10 miles. We used very little fuel in our fortnight only needing to fill up for the return home. Good range of shops in nearby Ashbourne ( including a fab hardware store which was a proper treasure trove of useful stuff). Only downside was a shortage of pubs in the area that were open all day so we did lack for a pint at the end of our walks. Never mind, there was always a suitable refreshment back in the van which we could enjoy enjoying the peace amongst the trees. Lovely!

Lovely setting shame about footballs

Nice 3 nights in motorhome , lovely walks and excellent dog walk. Our mistake we did not book a pitch with awning, but managed. Children very noisy in play area until after 9pm and playing foot ball . The ball hit 2 vehicles and a caravan. This was reported to warden and then the ball games ended, only to resume the following day. Once again reported and warden stopped it immediately. I think parents need to check site map rules that ball games are not allowed. Also children running through pitches which was very annoying when sat outside enjoying the evening. Still a lovely site.

Good site, spoilt by a couple of things

Good site for walks with our Dog. Mostly on lead as lots of birds, ducks, sheep etc... Weather was rainy so the site did get very muddy and small flooded areas even on the paths around site. Couple of things spoiled our stay, people walking across and children riding across our pitch. Right past the sign that informed them not to! Also, we had a Pizza on Saturday night for a treat but, whilst VERY nice, were VERY small for the price paid in our opinion. we needed supper! Facilities immaculate, warm and clean, nice staff. Will return when the weather is better, pick a different pitch and cater for ourselves, many thanks!

Long Weekend

Arrived on Friday afternoon, very warm welcome and found a nice spot. Site was really nice amongst the trees and only a short walk down to Carsington water. Facilities were spotless and a nice touch having the pizza and coffee van visiting. Did not try either but the steady flow of people getting pizzas implied that they were nice! The information area was really helpful with not just a room full of leaflets, staff had taken the time to make it more personalised. Lots of people on site for the weekend and people very friendly and happy to pass the time of day. It was nice to see day visitors enjoying a family get together. Worth a visit to Ashbourne, lots of independent shops. Left on Monday morning, site easy to find and access.
