A little bit of paradise "Under the Stars"

Camping Sous les Etoiles Normandie
If I could describe my ideal location and layout for a campsite, then Sous Les Etoiles would come very close to my vision of the perfect site. Located just outside the town of St Martin des Besaces. This site is centred around the old farmhouse and outbuildings which have been cleverly restored to provide a lovely bar and restaurant, modern shower and toilet facilities, a small games room and outdoor TV studio, with no doubt plans to utilise some of the other space for further modernisation in the future. Pitches were a good size, grassy and well-maintained with water close to hand as well as electrical hook up points. The site being right on the edge of town was a good 15 minutes walk back up into the centre where there was a convenience store, café, bar, Post Office, butchers and patisserie. The site is conveniently located a couple of miles off Junction 41 of the A84. It is within an hours drive of the ferry terminal in Caen and also an hour to the new British Normandie Memorial and the D-Day landing beaches as well as Bayeux with all its history, and quaint authentic buildings. Coincidentally it is also an hours drive to the popular Mont Saint Michel which we were advised is now the second most popular tourist attraction in France. The best advice would be to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. The site is owned and run by a British couple who you can see by any standard have put a lot of thought and dedication in making this site perfect, ensuring you have a pleasant and memorable stay. We will most certainly return.

Pleased to have found this site

Camping Sous les Etoiles Normandie
We used this site for a 3 day stopover on our way back to the channel ports. It was easy to find, just a few km off the autoroute and easily accessible. We had a serviced pitch in zone C which was OK. Most of the pitches in this area are fine but ours needed several levelling blocks to get us level. The toilet /shower facilities were very good and always clean. The site has a small bar and a very good restaurant. We ate there every night and the food was good and reasonably priced. The site wifi was also good. The site does not have a pool so may not suit some families but for us it was a lovely place to stay and we would happily return if needing a site in that area.

A little slice of the UK in Normandie

Camping Sous les Etoiles Normandie
We spent a week here in May 2023 on a short break to visit the D Day Beaches and see the Bayeux Tapestry. This is a lovely little site (about 50 pitches) set in a large village just off the motorway but far enough for noise not to be a problem. The site is owned and directly managed by a British Couple who cannot do enough to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The facilities are all recently refurbished and of a high standard and they have a lovely restaurant bar which serves one of the best burgers I have eaten in many a year. The village appears to welcome the Brits as seems the 11th Armoured Corps liberated them in 1944 and there is an excellent, interesting museum in the village that is well worth a visit. We would certainly return and we cannot but recommend "Under he Normandy Stars Campsite" most highly.
