Great for Walkers

First time here, stayed 3 nights. Site is sheltered being in an ex quarry, the facilities were modern and always clean, and for the best part most pitches were reasonably flat. Wardens were friendly and helpful on arrival and throughout our stay, and the site shop sold bread and milk to tie you over before having to go to shops (plus some lovely cakes and cheese). Only downside from our point of view was the central bin area at the site entry, much preferred bins at the service points. Some great walks around the site if you don’t mind some hills. Went to Buxton, a lovely town with its late Victorian architecture, 8 pubs and lots of cafes plus some good independent shops. Also went to High Peak Bookstore and Cafe, worth a visit if only for the refreshments. Certainly would return, but you will need to like walking or have a car to take you off site

Great location

Great setting and a distance away from the road. All the normal benefits of a Club site, plus very tasty Bakewell puddings sold in reception. Our mobile network worked some of the time and internet was fine when logged into the Club Wi-Fi. Very pleasant walk down into Buxton from campsite with interesting information stops and carvings along the way. We used the taxi company recommended by reception to get us back, the taxi arrived promptly and was very convenient and comfortable, a great alternative to a steep walk! BTW we like the Biffa rubbish and recycling bins being by the exit, convenient and tidy.

Lovely and peaceful stay in the heart of the Peaks.

Lovely site with firendly staff and beautiful sorroundings. Perfect stay for couples and families who`s main focus is walks and being outdoors. Site is quiet long and narrow so there might be a little walk required to get to the facilites and bins, but we did not mind and got our steps in! There is a very patchy mobile network access in some spots on the site, but there is an excellent WI-Fi coverage, so it did not bother us at all.If you love walking, Solomn`s Temple is just a short walk from the site and plenty of other walks near by. It took as 12 minutes to drive to car park near Chrome Hill`s circular, so everything is in close distance to the site. As an added bonus there is pizza available on site on Fridays and fish and chips on Saturdays (cash only). Buxton town is just a short-ish walk from the camping site through the picturesque fields. Staff was very helpful and friendly. If I would have to summarise our stay in one sentence, I would say that Buxton Caravan Site is a hidden gem in the heart of the Peaks and you should give it a go and visit at the next given opportunity.

What a beautiful location

Traveling through the UK for 8 weeks, so I can easily compare camping sites. We are also member of the significantly cheaper Camping & Caravanning Club. I can be brief: Wardens: excellent Pitches: good Sanitary facilities: fine Wifi: poor - non-existent Price: expensive TV reception: good Water points: good Waste location: inconvenient Dog walk: excellent

Perfect

We stayed for 2 nights at the start of September. First time at a caravan and motorhome club site. The location is stunning. The site was immaculate. Really friendly and helpful wardens. A 30 minute walk takes you into town. A fantastic place for a peaceful weekend. We will return!

Stay let down by a few things

We have stayed here before a really enjoyed it,however this time a few things let it down.We arrived at site at just after 1pm we took time off work to arrive when site opens to ensure we find a nicely positioned pitch,we were greeted by a friendly warden. We drove to where we wanted to be pitched up near the showers water points etc, only to find 6 of the best positioned pitches had been coned off which we thought very odd,we managed to find another suitable pitch although it wasn’t entirely flat so took some time to get level. We saw a warden walking past and enquired why they had coned off the best pitches she said that people had requested to be near the shower/toilets so they were reserved,we were not aware this was an option now on CAMC or else we would have done the same not bothered arriving on time and not taken time off work I always understood it was first come first served, also these are not the disabled pitches which of course I would have no problem with being reserved. Another issue is the bins have been taken away from service point and placed centrally outside the entrance so if your at the far end of the site it is a bit of a treak to take your rubbish surely this discourages people from taking rubbish bags as they use them . On the sunday I waited for the showers to be cleaned and went in at 12.05 straight after they opened they didn’t look as if they had been cleaned and if so not very well, there was toilet paper on the floor and the first shower I went in had a clump of hair on the floor. All in all quite disappointed in CAMC we always use your sites as the standards have always been excellent, however the prices keep going up and the standards seem to be slipping.

First time to The Peak District

An area of our lovely country that has been on our list for quite a while. Finally got here but as a “solo traveller” now 😔. I chose this site because of its location and proximity to specific parts of the Peak District I wanted to explore with the dogs - Tissington Trail, Monsal Trail, Castleton, etc. Arrival was very straightforward and I received a lovely, friendly welcome from the wardens. Arriving on the 21st August afforded me a large selection of pitches as the site was pretty quiet (as a previous reviewer had commented). Although it is a big site, it doesn’t feel like it due to the way it has been laid out. Some pitches have quite a slope from front to back, so be aware that levelling blocks might be required. Having read some of the reviews beforehand I was aware of the centralisation of the bins, not that it was an issue or problem for me. I felt the general appearance of the site was really good and very impressed by the look and cleanliness standard of the facilities block. Even more impressed after asking one of the wardens if it has been recently upgraded to be told it was last done in 2019! A testament to the current “team” of wardens and the efforts they are putting in. It was great to have the country park literally on your doorstep, especially for the dogs as well as providing an interesting and enjoyable walking route into Buxton. The site is well located for the areas I wanted to explore. As a solo traveller having a few more “provisions” in a site shop is always welcomed and it was nice to see some local produce available in the shop here - other Club sites around the country could learn from the Buxton site. Good Friday night pizza with a varied menu and great Saturday fish & chips (with a sensible sized piece of fish too - well done). Lastly, also echoing the comments of a previous reviewer, my only disappointment with the site was the technology connections. This has no reflection on the wardens as it is out of their control. Appreciating the site is in an old quarry so mobile phone signals will be struggling - I am on O2 and most of the time had no signal at all. This means for communicating with the outside world whilst on site you are reliant on the WiFi system. Periodically it could cope with a simple message via Facebook etc. Anything more complicated it was totally useless. Apart from this being frustrating, for some the need to be in contact with family etc may be vitally important. I don’t know what the answer is but in todays technological world this is woefully inadequate. However, this was a frustration yes but didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the trip or The Peak District. I shall certainly return as there is lots more areas to explore.

Beautiful Buxton

Lovely site situated in the quarry with great views and walks from the site. We didn't have great weather but managed to do some walks in the country park and climbed Soloman's Temple from which there were great views and walked into Buxton. Also visited NT Lyme Hall which was a good day out. Buxton is a pretty town with lots of amenities and parks. Sampled the fish and chips from the visiting van which were nice. Our son was able to camp here which was great to be able to meet up and pitch nearby. Can't say we noticed that the site was neglected! Our son was on a grass camping pitch and the grass was cut short enough for them to camp. Nothing worse than being away and listening to the lawn mower every day and also it's good for the wildlife too when the grass is that bit longer.

Great managers, poor neighbours.

Arrived at 13.00 too a warm welcome as always, the site manager and his wife are a great team. We setup and had a walk into Buxton you must try the Railway inn Monday to Friday they have some great offers on food Two drinks and pizza £15:00, also checkout the coffee van in the car park just outside the site the coffee is amazing and they have cakes. Buxton club site is always clean well looked after but there is always somebody or a group of people that will spoil it for you. We had had the neighbours from hell behind us, Friday night loud until rain stopped play thankgod, but Saturday this group went out with two of the wardens into Buxton for drinks then carried on until almost midnight. Have some drinks meet up with friends but have some consideration for other campers around you. The two wardens should know better!!

A Beautiful Part of the Country

We’ve just returned from another fabulous 10 days at this lovely campsite. Unlike previous visits, it was very quiet, possibly due to the generally bad summer weather (we had nice days) and likely due to the cost-of-living crisis hitting family pockets more these days. Whatever, we felt very lucky having the pick of good pitches and no queues for showers etc. The staff are great, very happy, obliging and always ready to offer advice and assistance, if required. Yes, many of the pitches are showing signs of weeds, but the place does seem to have been a bit neglected over the past year and the staff are working, methodically, to improve each pitch as it is vacated – it’s going to be a long job, especially as the rain and wind, throughout the summer, has not allowed weedkilling sprays to be used effectively. Having read previous reviews, I was expecting to struggle, as usual, with poor/no WiFi. However, when I arrived the staff informed me that the site had the new, free BT system, which the Club are installing throughout the land. Having struggled and complained about, the previous Air Angel system, seemingly forever, I was overjoyed. However, my happiness was soon dashed as I realised that the very weak signal strength was, generally, very poor indeed and worse that the system it replaced. Why, in this day and age, the Club is so inept with modern technology as to roll out something this poor, even though it is free, is totally beyond my comprehension. However, by standing under the WiFi pole, two pitches away from ours, using the system in the middle of the night and relying on free WiFi in the lovely town of nearby Buxton, I was able to get work completed. Not something that I usually need to do on holiday, but unavoidable on this occasion. So, despite my moan above, do visit this lovely site, with spotless facilities, a good site shop, great wardens and in a spectacular surrounding area, but please, do take some hot, sunny weather with you!
