Beach side camp

Stayed at Valdevacqueros for four nights in May 2023. The pitches are all hedged but differing sizes and some impossible for a motorhome due to trees and low branches. The facilities are quite old but all worked well, plenty of hot water in the showers, although everything had to be hung outside and toilets were find complete with swallows which I found charming. There is a large pool with plenty of grass surrounding and its a 10 min walk to a neverending sandy beach which was full of kite surfers whilst we were there. There are bars and surfer type shops and restaurants dotted on the beach within walking. We caught a taxi into Tarifa which is a lovely old town with little streets, shops, castles, marina etc. A great day out and a very east taxi ride. The camp restaurant was fine, nice simple food and camp shop was useful and could order breakfast items. Our main problem was that there were several long term campers who seemed to disregard the rules on no music and were very annoying and loud. Would certainly return to this area though.

Wintersun

We stayed here for 10 nights and loved it. Beach just across the road, endless walks. Pitches shaded by trees. Staff very helpful, our fridge kept tripping out due to the voltage dropping under 200V on our pitch so moved us to a pitch nearer the front which sorted the issue. Shower block clean but dated, this didn’t bother us. Most people seemed to have brought their dog so ours will be coming with us next time! Quiet at night. Tarifa worth a visit for some lunch. Didn’t try the restaurant on site so can’t comment. Definitely will come again.

We loved it!

We very nearly didn't come to this site based on the one review shown here. So glad we did! We have loved it. We arrived without booking and we had a very friendly reception They gave us ASCI reductions when we produced our club membership card and there was no charge for our three dogs. We have a large pitch which is quite private. The loos and showers are fine. Yes, a little bit of graffiti but to be fair, this is etched into the doors (with a knife?) so not easy to remove. Lots of hot water for washing up and a power wash too. Maybe a couple more washing machines would be good, as even in the winter there was a wait sometimes. But the really great thing about this site is the position - just a five minute walk to the glorious endless beach. You can hear the sea from the caravan. We have to leave tomorrow and we will be very sad to go. We will be back next year for sure.

Not for us, disappointed

Although we didn’t book through the CMHC as we are touring and couldn’t give 3 days notice, we picked this camp based on it being endorsed by the CMHC assuming there would be a good standard of facilities, however the receptionist shrugged her shoulders at our CMHC card, she didn’t even recognise it but they take ACSI. We are here in early December so off season and that should be something to bear in mind. A lot of the pitches are deeply rutted or covered in plastic and many are quite small due to trees in the middle of the pitch. The restaurant food is just ok and a bit more expensive than we have had to date. The main washing block with all the MH facilities at the bottom of the pitch is shut, so is the pool but we have a smaller toilet/shower block near us but the fresh water is locked shut, we have yet to find a fresh water point so another trip back to the reception to ask having been once to ask about the chemical disposal point. We walked the site twice and could only find one Elsan point but actually there are two more at the top of the camp but neither are shown on the woefully poor site map provided by reception. The open sunnier pitches are taken by the long term stayers - fair enough. The plus points - the pitches are mostly separated by hedging so you have a bit of privacy and not crammed on top of each other like several of the other Spanish sites, there are some larger pitches - you pick your own, the beach across the road is magnificent if a bit windy - excellent for surfing and kite surfing. Hot water in the showers and loo roll, however the showers are a square cubicle with nowhere to put towels or clothing, you have to hang them outside or over the door but kept very clean, although a shame to see graffiti all over the toilet doors. We eventually found fresh water at the bottom of the camp by the closed shower block, a man had a pipe attached and was using it to wash his camper van rather than pay to use the motorhome jet wash. There are other campsite around this area, better location and look better pitches. I am at a loss as to why this one has been chosen as an affiliate site. There’s a small supermarket on site with fresh bread.
