Nice site but won't be returning

We have been to red house stables twice, it is a nice well presented CL midway between Matlock & Bakewell. The peak railway runs at the back of the site, we last went on bank holiday & the owners are obviously out to make as much money as possible as there were 9 vans on the CL field. The whole point for us going to CL's is that there will be no more than 5 vans on site, for that reason we won't return again, I also think that for the amount they charge there should be a shower on site as well

Red House Stables

As previously stated lovely level well kept grass field & the odd steam train passing. Apart from that & despite the nearby busy A6 very quiet. But to note for the less able among us. The toilet is situated adjacent to the stable museum reception which is approx. 150-200yds away from the camping field. The CDP is next to the toilet & requires a metal cover to be lifted. A couple of feet from the CDP is the fresh water tap. Which is not suitable for motor homes to fill direct from. The price charged is currently £20 which we feel is a bit expensive considering The Firs Site just 10 miles down the road has all the expected CC facilities for the same price. In order to pay you have to go to The Stables Museum reception, but that is not clear on arrival. You can choose your own pitch from what is available on arrival, one pitch does have a view over the valley but the rest back onto a row of tall trees. This CL does give easy access (5 mins walk)to the buses that run along the A6 towards Matlock/Derby one direction Bakewell/Buxton/Manchester the other if you don't want to move your unit. There is a garden center with a cafe a short walk away & Barringtons Pub serving which serves food. All in all a nice site but a bit on the expensive side.

Perfect C.L. for Derbyshire

Visited this quiet CL September 2014 for the first time. Easy to find and nice welcome. Quiet level site with the added bonus of having a steam train go by a few times a day several days a week. Ideal for visiting all the sites of Peak District. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect for the Peaks

Just stayed for the second time at this CL - perfect base for exploring the Peak District. Near to Matlock/Matlock Bath and Bakewell. Plenty of walking opportunities. Lucky enough to have some very good weather but got muddy under foot after it rained for the last two days - we are not fans of hard standing so didn't mind. Steam Railway runs alongside the site - not any trains so you will not be bothered by them. Would definitely visit again.
