Beautiful spot

We enjoyed a lively week at this site with our dogs it was well placed for visiting Lakenheath and Milldenhall and the jets overhead were spectacular, only one downside was the neighbouring field is used for dog training and one day there was around 20 dogs there yapping from 8-30am to 6pm and no signs of owners trying to quieten them down so bare this in mind if you want quiet days by the van as we were, we will however return at some point and The Bird in hand pub is excellent for pub grub and very dog and human friendly, site and pub both good value for money

Surprisingly very peaceful

This was a very nice and surprisingly peaceful site to stay on. Bearing in mind that this site is located between two American air force bases, there was very little noise from any planes. Yes, you did hear the odd one take off, but that was in the distance and only for a couple of minutes. The rest of the time is spent trying to identify the bird song. The site was very firm and stable, considering how much rain the country has had lately, and there was no problem driving across the grass with car and caravan. Just behind the pitches is a dog training area. One day, trainers were putting dogs through their paces, but we only noticed when we went to leave the site for some sight seeing. All very quiet. It was nice to have a fully service pitch. I like the benefit of having my own water supply, and nowadays, this is one of the first things I look for when choosing a site. David called for his money after we had been on site for two days and was a very nice chap to chat too. He has had the site for many years. Some interesting places to visit nearby such as the Dads army museum in Thetford and shopping and eating in Bury St Edmunds. One tip. The driveway leading to the site has a couple of very large pot holes so drive very slowly. No problem, but be aware. Access is large and open so no problem for those of you who have large vans.

Noisy dogs

Nice site but ruined by a big dog barking continuously from 5am to 7am in the immediate vicinity, setting off other dogs so we moved on after one night instead of staying for 4 I offered to pay for the one night but Mr Overton cancelled the charge so full marks for customer care Sorry as the site suited our needs and appeard to be well setup.

joint first place best UK CL!

Spent 13 nights here early August during the heat wave. Booked over 2 years ago then Covid, so great to get here. Living in NE Scotland, we love the sun! Fantastic site, pitch where you want alongside electric, water, drains and TV- what more is there. David a fantastic chap, always available for a chat or to help-will even provide water extension. We are looking to move to Suffolk, so an excellent base for checking the area. Bury St Edmunds a lovely town- 20 mins. If you're an aircraft buff, fantastic, but not intrusive; even my wife showed an interest when the F15s were landing over the site. We will definitely be back.

Wildemere Farm, Fantastic

What great CL sited in the Suffolk countryside. The pitches have water, ehu and TV hookup. Radio reception was good as was EE for tethering. I can’t comment on television reception. David, the owner is a great character and a font of knowledge. The site is situated between RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath, both US airforce bases which is great if your an aircraft fan. Lots to do in the area, both RSPB and SWT & NWT reserves. Plenty of National Trust and English Heritage sites. Easy drive to ELy and Bury St Edmunds etc

Just spent 4 nights at the site.

Just left after spending 4 nights at the site, David (the Owner )is possible the nicest person you could meet. It is important that you follow the directions in the book ,otherwise you could end up in the farm, which is separate from the CL. Fully serviced pitches 10 amp electric. There is some noise from the planes taking of from the airbase but for us it was a spectacle to see the fighters. Plenty of places to visit from the site Will definitely return.

Fabulous Site, so laid back and very friendly

This is a lovely site to visit with everything you need plus more! Each pitch has electric, water and waste drain. There is a shed with lots of info, books, dvd's and spare aqua rolls, windbreaks, toilet chemicals etc. David the owner, is a lovely, laid back chap with lots of info about the area. We had some wonderful long dog walks direct from site and we will definitely be back again in the future.

Great Little CL

Stayed for 4 nights over the cold Bank Holiday weekend. Nice easily accessible site which is mainly flat. Met shortly after arrival by David who is e very pleasant host who has vast knowledge of the local area and knows his local history. There is an information hut with books, DVDs and other local information. What is great is there are several aerial leads for you to plug into the aerial points located on the back of the numerous water points. There is also grey waste drainage accessible from each pitch. There are also additional aquarolls and hoses with aquaroll attachments to connect the water so there is no need to keep refilling your barrel. All this at no cost. Situated between RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath there is a bit of noise from arriving and departing aircraft but only seems to be a couple of sorties per day so not too bad. Didn’t bother us as we are happy to listen and watch the aircraft. After this there is barely any noise except the local agricultural vehicles, only to be expected as its near the farm. Will definitely return and great value at £14 per night.

A Lockdown Lovely

Provided exactly what was needed after the restrictions of Lockdown. A fortnight of safe caravanning with a group of friends. The owner David is a delight to meet. His knowledge of the local area, its history and agriculture is excellent. The site is private and secure with great facilities for a CL. Although away from main roads you are quickly onto good routes to get you farther afield. The local walks and forest tracks are beautiful on foot or pedal cycle. We had 2 weeks of good weather which made it a memorable holiday. Many thanks

Regular Returners

This is a little gem of a CL, as are its owners! Access for caravans and motorhomes to the CL is good but you do need to follow the directions in the handbook or website as sat navs have taken visitors to other addresses in the past. The CL is level, but you may need to move a little back and forth to be perfectly level. We have achieved level without ramps etc. The surface is grass, the soil is very porous so even after heavy rain it drains and dries very quickly. Along one side and at the far end are water, TV and grey waste points. The EHUs (10 amp) are via two posts centrally located. Pitch next to the water post and you will have a fully serviced pitch. Pitching elsewhere is fine but you won't benefit from the TV and water points being next to the outfit. That said David, the owner, will loan you an aerial lead to reach the TV point and even the ball valve and hose for your aquaroll. Rubbish disposal is via screened off dustbins which are emptied on a near daily basis. The Elsan point is one of the best I have ever seen on a CL, it is a match the Club's own ones. There is an information kiosk containing leaflets, books, DVDs and walks for you to borrow. A local caravan business has placed for sale a few items such as toilet chemicals should you run out. David is charming and an absolute oracle on local history, information and events. If you need him he is there, but never intrusive. Ever ready to help too. A big bonus for us are nearby attractions. Bury St Edmunds is an easy drive away, Newmarket not much further. Thetford Forest is nearby with a Go Ape. Brandon Forest is closer. A tip is to park at Brandon Forest and ride your bikes to Thetford Forest, saves on car park fees though there is still a modest fee at Brandon. In Mildenhall you will find a Sainsbury's and a couple of fuel stations plus an assortment of shops. In nearby Brandon are Tesco and Aldi. The big draw for us (though not for all) are the two air bases, Lakenheath and Mildenhall. Both can be busy but generally have set times and if the wind is blowing one way you wouldn't even know they are there, however if blowing the other way you will see and hear them. They tend to leave and arrive in waves so not a constant presence. RAF Lakenheath has a free of charge public viewing area and RAF Mildenhall has a couple of pay to view areas. In summary, good access, brilliant owners and a site ideal for the novice through to the most experienced. The price is the price, no extras for awning, dogs etc. Plenty to see and do nearby too, or stay on site and watch the aviators whether they be metal or feathery!
