So Good We Didn't Go Home ....

We visited from another site where we were storing our van and were so impressed that we asked to stay and store our caravan here.  The staff were so helpful and sorted everything for us.  A lovely site tucked away but easy to access.  Spotlessly clean and tidy and brilliant staff.  We couldn't ask for anything else.

Great location

For the second time we used this site for visiting London and, for the second time, it proved the perfect choice. London is less than 30 mins away from the town centre rail station - easily reached by bus from outside site entrance. The site itself is everything you want it to be: spacious, neat, immaculately clean and more than adequate facilities, all of which is a credit to the friendly and helpful wardens. No problem with getting hot water - if you read the instructions.

Over night stay.

This was our second visit to Commons Wood site and hope not the last as its in a good position for us on way back from Europe via Dover to our home in the Midlands. Very friendly and hard working wardens and as like most CC sites clean but the showers need updating as like our first visit the hot water was only just ok but not by much. Please CC bosses spend some money on this site as its well used if only by long term London workers and passers by like me. Looks like its good for day trips into the capitol but I have not tried it.

Under Tree Parking - Be Wary

We have visited this site a few times and have no real issues with it. However on our last visit we pitched up under a low hanging tree which must have been populated with birds. Not a problem you would think, but oh dear not sure what the birds were eating but there droppings were not only staining but when dried out they became incredibly difficult to remove. A lesson learnt though, one we will be sure to watch for on our next visit.

A week in May

We used this site as a visiting launch pad for London - 22mins away by fast train - 90mins when train 'malfunctioned' The car park at Hatfield station has a good price for day tickets and worth using if traveling into London by train - your train tickets will also qualify you for many 2 for 1 offers when sightseeing thoughout London. The site is nice - be careful selecting your pitch - some are narrow and on the small side with tight access. During the second half of May on our visit the warden staff were helpful - kept us all informed of boiler breakdown in the toilet block and seemed to work tirelessly in keeping the site neat & tidy - yes some folks live on the site but were just as human as caravan club members - all in all a good site for access to railways to take you further abroad.

Disappointed

We arrived at 12.25pm to be told that pitches had been allocated. Found ourselves on a pitch to the side of the park without any grass, under trees with no sun. Much of the park were bathing up the sun while we were in total shade. Wouldn't mind but we booked the weekend months in advance too! Caravans arriving 5 hours later pull onto a sunny pitch. The site is surprisingly quiet and facilities clean. Probably won't be returning.

Perfect location

This site is a perfect location for London or overnight for longer journeys. The wardens are especially helpful and friendly, and it is clean and peaceful.  The only downfall is the showers are cold.

2nd Stop of Tour

This site is small but there are some very scruffy caravans that seem to have been parked up for a while. If you need to stop near the location it would be okay for a short stay.

Near enough to Central London

We required a site at short notice handy for Central London on a Sunday. The Abbey Wood and Crystal Palace sites were full and so after looking at the train timetable from Welwyn Garden City we booked a pitch for two nights at Commons Wood. It worked really well for us. We got to Leicester Square well within one hour. Taxi to the Station £3.50. Off peak Travel Card £13.60 including underground zones 1 to 6. Got stung coming back - taxi from the rank outside station to the site - £9.45. Bus/private hire would have been a much cheaper option. Oh well... The local bus service is very regular to/from the town centre to the nearby hospital. The facilities at Commons Wood were good and clean but the showers could do with an upgrade. The shower heads only point straight down, lack flow and are not as hot as most other Caravan Club sites even first thing on a morning. Unfortunately, the relief wardens on duty did not know the area so getting local information very much relied on our own research. Did not bother with the WiFi due to poor signal.

A really peacful site

This is the second time we have stayed at this site. We stopped for two nights so that we could go to London for two days - it is very simple from this site 5 minutes in a taxi to the station and 30 minutes to Kings cross. The facilities at this site are clean and well looked after.
