Edge of the World

We stayed on this site for five days in July. We had planned a week, but the Scottish summer drove us south two days early. There is a feeling of being near the edge when this far north, with only the Northern Isles far out to sea before the arctic circle looms. We had a wonderful time at this rugged, well equipped and well tended site. The wardens were efficient and friendly, and despite the challenging weather keep the site in good order with tact and humour. Well situated for trips to Thurso, Wick, John o' Groats and Orkney, in this land nature is king. This site is well worth a visit, but remember that here roads are narrow and twisty and often single track, and self reliance is essential. But the rewards are the opportunity to see nature in the raw.
