Quiet out of season.

We stayed here for 7 night nights in April/May and liked the site very much. We arrived a couple of minutes before reception closed for lunch but the young lady on reception quickly checked us in and allocated us our pitch. That was great but unfortunately the pitch was waterlogged as was the approach and was unacceptable and so the hour gained was then lost whilst we awaited her return from lunch. It did allow us time to select a pitch of our choosing however and that was readily allocated to us without a problem. The manager even cut the grass for us beforehand. Pitches are of a good size with full services and delineated with shrubs and trees. We didn’t use the toilet/shower facilities as we prefer to use our own but they appeared well maintained and clean. There are a large number of static caravan/chalets across the site as with many Continental sites. We were one of only 4 units that weren’t French, and the only Brits at this early point in the season. There are various entertainments for families including an excellent games and play area and the extensive pool facilities are excellent and were operating and heated despite it being early in the season and the long period of cool, wet weather that preceded our visit. The beaches here are the main attraction and the town of St. Jean de Monts has a very long and attractive promenade from which to enjoy them. We drove north to Pornic and south to St.Gilles Croix-de-Vie both of which were interesting fishing ports to visit. We would be happy to return.

Fantastic late season stay

We stayed here for 2 nights literally 2 days before the site closed. The large car park opposite is a great idea to park up in before you go to check in. The welcome we received from reception was very warm and friendly. We were allowed to explore the park and find our own pitch. We had a large flat fully serviced pitch which was a short walk from all of the facilities. We found all of the facilities to be clean and plenty of facilities available despite it being so close to closing. The pool was a little on the cold side, but there are plenty of sunbeds and plenty of space to laze around the pool. Two large beers from the bar at the pool was 11 Euro. The beach is around 1 mile away with around 50 spaces there. We walked there on our last evening and enjoyed a stunning sun set. We explored the area on bikes. The VTT tracks should be treated with caution. Although traffic free, there are some deep patches of sand and their distance markers bare no resemblance to actual distances. Supermarkets, fuel etc are all close by and the site is very easy to find. The site was very quiet when we were there due to the lateness in the season. All the staff were very friendly - even the cleaner who I accidentally scared the life out of on our final morning.

Great site but very crowded

Firstly this is a lovely site. Great pool, clean abundant facilities and friendly staff but if you like a spacious pitch this is not the place for you. The first pitch we were shown on arrival was practically on top of the play area, next to a pond of stagnant water. However it was late so we bedded down and requested a move the next day. Our second pitch was quieter but tiny. Only just enough room for our van and awning, we had to park at the front of our van leaving us no space to sit. There was no privacy, you could hear everything your neighbor said and did! On top of this feral kids racing around on bikes and scooters every which way made navigating around the site treacherous! You can easily bike to the local super u (much cheaper bread and pastries than on site) and the beach is also accessible on bikes. A nice site just bear in mind close quarters and crowds if thinking about la yole

Reply from the Site:

Glad you enjoyed the site - we have many different sized pitches and unfortunately if you book late June for the peak season of August when we are at our busiest and arrive at 20.00 in the evening its not always possible to allocate you the best of our pitches- the first large pitch was next to the outlet for the fire brigade that we are legally required to have on site and a family with 3 children may have enjoyed being located next to our lovely spacious play park but we were happy to be able to find you an alternative immediately the next day - this was in the original part of the site where pitches are a little smaller. We try to accommodate all of our customers wishes and we are happy that you enjoyed your holiday and the excellent cycle paths in our area.

Excellent stay at La Yole

We stayed at La Yole the first week of August, this is a site we found in the Caravan Club European brochure. Towing the site is about 5 ½ hr drive from Roscoff. Arriving at reception we were greeted by very friendly, welcoming & helpful staff. The site is very clean & tidy, our pitch size was good & we didn’t feel rushed getting off the access road onto the pitch. There was a pool complex, bar & restaurant. All the site facilities & shower block we used was very good. There is a little beach town in close safe cycling distance from the site. Here there were some nice restaurants & bars with a lovely atmosphere. The weather was absolutely fantastic. A great site to stay at.

Well looked after

When you first arrive make sure you park in large carpark opposite the park. We arrived at lunch time and check-in was closed. We had to reverse the caravan back onto the road and then park up. The staff were incredibly helpful and spoke good English. The touring pitch that we were on was very spacious and fully serviced. There are several sanitary blocks through-out the site which were always spotless and well maintained. We enjoyed the pool facilities and restaurant. The surrounding area is relatively flat with a Super U close by which we were able to cycle too (there is also a good on site shop). There is a fantastic cycle network in the area which we made good use of, cycling to Saint Jean de Monts and Saint Gilles Croix de Vie. If you like markets there are plenty in the area. The beech is a short cycle from the site in Les Mouettes and is worth a visit at sunset.

Return Visit to St Jean de Monts July/August 2017

Review posted now due to significant difficulty posting before. We had planned, and did, arrive at La Yole at approx. 8.30 p.m. As indicated the ‘gardien’ was in a mobile home at the gate and took us to our pitch, gave us our sticker and said we could check in in the morning. The pitch we had been allocated – apparently one of only two that were suitable was surrounded by mobile homes. The main caravan area started on the pitches behind us. Whilst the other pitches in the caravan area were close to each other and sometimes quite small. That said there were a number that would have been suitable for us and so apparently having only a choice of two and being charged 29 euro for making a choice to secure the pitch we were left feeling a little ripped off. The pool areas, whilst perhaps looking only ‘adequate’ on the web site was actually very good and well thought out. There was a warm area with sloping entrance and a small ‘lazy river’. A smaller indoor pool and also pool ‘beds’ and a jacuzzi. The sunbathing area is large and there were a lot of sunbeds with clear signage that they should not be saved unless you were in the pool area. There were the usual relatively high number who ignored this and it saddens me to say but they were mainly British. The toilets have paper and were always clean whatever time of day we used them. We didn’t use the showers (preferring to use the ‘van) so cannot comment about their cleanliness. Opposite us and beyond the mobile homes started. They seemed well kept and didn’t cause any issues. The small site shop was well stocked and although pricier than in town cost was not excessive when compared with the convenience. Gas BBQs are permitted but not coal but there are two ‘general use’ (that I saw) areas to use coals and gas BBQs can be hired from the shop (quite expensive though). The restaurant seemed to have a good menu and was well appointed and sold takeaway fries etc. The evening entertainment was simple but interesting but happened in the restaurant and there was difficulty in participating as people were eating. Wifi is available on a weekly/monthly/daily basis. There is one code for each device. We were offered two codes for the 23 nights (so 1 month tariff) at 35 Euros (1 is 30 Euros). Occasionally the wifi is acceptable and can – occasionally – be used for Facetime. Otherwise think slow e mail and web site use. My mobile phone was much better. As to the area. If you like beaches, circuses, playparks, amusements, aqauparcs etc. it’s great. There did not seem to be as much to see as in the Loire for example. Cycling, which I look to do, is great. Many cycle paths. Drivers are almost without exception polite and allow priority to cyclists.

First overseas trip

This was our first venture into France with our caravan which we booked through the club including the ferry crossing at a great saving. We hade such a wonderful stay that we can honestly say we did not want to go home, the weather was brilliant which allowed us to make use of the excellent pool area, although late season meant the restaurant was shut. The staff were lovely and we could order fresh bread daily, the local shops were also closed, but plenty of shops open in nearby St Jean de monts to explore. Excellent level cycling on designated cycle tracks and also through the forest. We had a fully serviced pitch that was a very generous in size, and we met some really lovely people on site, we are looking forward to a return visit next year.

Brilliant site for cyclists

We visited the site near the end of their season and so the shop was closed and there was no entertainment. However, this did not bother us as there is so much on the door step. Cycle routes through the forest areas and along the coast are second to none. The ride along the seafront at St Jean de Mont (not far from the site) is a real treat - wide cycle way, frequent cycle racks and stunning views across the wide beach. The staff were helpful and friendly and the pool area the best we came across this year - the website photograph does not do it justice. We will certainly return.

Excellent

We spent fourteen nights here and were not disappointed with one. The staff could not have been more helpful and the food in the restaurant was excellent. The best way to get around, at this time of year, appears to be by bike and the journey to nearby St Gilles Croix De Vie was easier than we thought and a pleasant ride. The pools were busy but never overcrowded and the evening entertainment was reasonable as they cannot cater for all and obviously do their best. We spent three or four evenings listening to live music and were not disappointed by the quality. Would definitely return to this site and recommend it for families or couples.

Welsh Andalusian

A very good site which was well run and well maintained. The owner went around the site giving personal greetings to new arrivals such as us. Although we used the toilet/shower facilities in our caravan, we would otherwise thoroughly recommend this site to others. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The water complex is excellent. Very clean. A good variety of pools and jacuzzi`s. Our family were on site at the same time. The grandchildren loved it. We bought tickets for Puy Du Fou at the site reception allowing us to make our 4th visit. Fantastic place.
