Castleton Certificated Locations

Nestled in the Hope Valley in the shadow of the majestic Mam Tor, Castleton is a picturesque Peak District village that has much to offer tourists.

Approach through the dramatic, awe-inspiring limestone gorge of Winnats Pass and you're straight into cave country, with Treak Cliff, Blue John, Peak and Speedwell all open for tours - the latter in a boat.

It's also worth climbing the steep slope up to the Norman ruins of Peveril Castle for great views across the countryside - and then doing the same again on the other side of the village to stand on Mam Tor and see the abandoned road.

There are numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants available for refreshments and the shops, including those selling the world-famous and unique semi-precious stone Blue John, stay open late.

At the end of May, you'll be able to catch Garland Day, when a King and Queen are chosen and paraded through the village draped in flowers to welcome in the summer.

It's also well worth visiting for the Christmas lights switch-on, as the festive displays are particularly excellent.
