Ideal Motorhome stopover

We stayed for 3 nights in June and my conclusion is that this site is an excellent site for motorhomes/campervans, looking for an overnight stop. The facilities are all as described and the owners are friendly and helpful, although we are led to believe they are planning on selling up soon. I agree with the other review, which said that the site isn't really what a lot of caravanners want. You can't really sit outside and enjoy the ambience as the site is very like a carpark, being comprised of gravel and not sheltered from the road. Both the road which passes along the front of the site and the one to the side (which leads to the fairy pools), are incredibly busy all day long (they are quiet at night though). Random people in cars did drive in and park up to take photos of the loch opposite and neighbouring Highland cattle! I didn't find the site relaxing at all due to the busy road and the fact that motorhomes arrived and left at varying times all through the day and night. Quite a few were obviously not caravan club members (Norwegian couple and large Spanish family for exampe) and they were quite noisy at dawn and midnight. There was nothing wrong with the site and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a one night stopover, but wouldn't recommend it as a relaxing holiday base.

A little disappointing

Site hard standing with water and electric on the pitch. Facilities clean but we were on pitch 5 so the facilities blocked our view of the loch. Also the chemical waste facility is a toilet that faces this pitch (not really what I want to look at). Unfortunately, passing motorhomes stopped to empty chemical waste and grey water and some just parked up for the night even tho the site was full. We cannot comment on the manager as his house had recently burnt down so he had other worries but was very pleasant when we did meet him. No information room.

Perfect for exploring Skye

We booked 5 nights at this CL and found it a great location to explore the island from. The fairy pools are a short drive away and Glenbrittle beach. The site is fairly level and is a gravel surface, ideal for our Moho but maybe not what a caravan user would prefer. This isn’t the type of site you set up with awnings and deckchairs in my opinion. Access is easy and just off the road but the road is quiet at night. The walk to the village and distillery is around 20 minute but beware the walk back is uphill. Peter was a nice chap, friendly and helpful. We didn’t use the shower or wc so cannot comment but it all looked ok. WIFI was good but no TV signal for our aerial.

Warm Greeting

My host greeted me warmly....he was informative and friendly. You can pay by cash or card. 16 pounds includes site...awning ...water at site...electricity...wifi...and good wifi.....hard pitch and level...can let your dogs run up the path....close to Talisker Distillery...a pub...clam shack...coffee and takeaway...fairy pools 4 miles...you can easily walk to the pub etc. Now....it is right on a fairly busy wee road...but the location is good for touring around Skye....I would return. Thank you Merkadale.

A good spot for central Skye

A really useful base for central Skye at a fair price which included hook up hardstanding pitches with their own water taps, shower, loo and free wi-fi all for £15. Great welcome by the friendly and helpful Steve. Great pub 10 mins walk away in Carbost.
