CAMC car insurance

So ... last year I decided to take up car motor insurance with the Club. All went well and was happy. But then ... they sent me my renewal.

The cost has increased by £49

My NCD which was 18 years when I joined (and was accepted by the club with no mention of the fact that they would reduce this upon renewal) had been reduced to 9, so I rang to ask why and was told 'it's our policy as that's what insurers accept', so I asked them if they would send written confirmation of my NCD and I was told no, 9 was all they would confirm!

So I decided to shop around and ....

Quote with 19 years NCD £221 Quote with 9 years NCD £271 ... I'm fuming.

The best their customer service operative would offer was 'I'll log this as a complaint' ... I guess I wont get an answer before renewal.

I think you would be talking to Devitt insurance brokers , as that is who I am sure handle motor insurance for the club,

There is no loyalty these days, try the co op direct  that who we took out with last year ( got £30 food vouchers as well)

Ellie, I can assure you that all insurers stop counting after a while and 6 seems to be the maximum. The fact you've had a quote cheaper where you were able to use your 19 years NCD is pretty irrelevant. It's the net premium that matters not the No Claims Discount years. Just make sure you insure with a company that allows some protection of your NCD.

I was once dealt with an Insurance Company that only quoted net premiums. If they wanted the business they were competitive. If they didn't then they weren't but they did confirm how many years you came to them with and how many years you were claim free with them when you left them so it didn't really matter.

Go with the 19 year one but I bet if you saw their breakdown you wouldn't be getting 19 years but something between 4 and 7.

You have to negotiate with car insurer`s I only paid £2 more for mine this year over last following a "little chat" - not the CAMC

Neither figure is exactly very high, even the higher price is only the price of a service or the price of some tyres. And as above, many companies max NCD is only around 9yrs

I never pay the amount quoted on a renewal notice, whether it's with CAMC or any other insurance provider - vehicles, caravan, house etc. There's always a discount to be negotiated if you're patient enough to discuss and make your case strong enough.

My renewal was around £40 more expensive this year until.... i changed my car on Friday. Only £30 to see out the rest of the policy on the new car, so i thought top job.

Now for the renewal........ They sent me a quote yesterday with LV which is double the price of going direct to LV themselves!!!!!!

So much for preferential rates through the club.

Still waiting for a call back from Devitt but i suspect i won't be using them again!

My insurance is due in June and I have been with the Club's insurance for a few years now. Earlier this year I changed my car from a 2011 C4 Picasso to a 2015 C4 Picasso, this has a 10 BHP increase and better security and lots of safety features. Last year the insurance was £449, this year they are quoting £1073 with LV. Nothing has changed with me apart from, I have turned 70.

I have gone onto the LV website and been quoted £424! So why the horrendous difference? Somehow I don't think I will be using the insurance services again for the car!

Slowly, but surely I am getting very disillusioned with the Club and I am really wondering if it is worth the membership fee.

IBH - Check with the club.If you take away a normal maximum No Claims Discount of say 60%, although I think LV= give about 67-70%, from the price quoted you end up in the mid £400 range, so have they forgot to deduct something? If they haven't then at least you'll get the satisfaction of telling them about your own quote.

Something has gone wrong, because the insurance cover I have has been quoted at over £1100.00 and they have apparently shopped around and come up with this one at £1073!

Ironically, I'm using my car less now  and the cost goes up!
