Welcome back Mr Matthews!

We used Bow Hill for many years before it shut. Thank goodness Mr Matthews is prepared to give it another go. do not get put off by the negative reviews. This is a lovely site, easy to get to, easy to pitch on huge hard standings. Excellent views. Lots to do in the area - loads of walks - some direct from the site and several good pubs close by. You can even walk to some. Nat Trust Uppark House close as is Chichester & theatre, and the coast The facilities are excellent by any standard. Mr Matthews called the day after we arrived to collect the balance of the fees. He was perfectly happy to chat (and I don't think he would have worried if we hadn't wanted to). Not telling which our preferred pitch is as we want to be able to get on it in future!

Fantastic Site!

Thanks to Phil for a warm welcome and for developing such a wonderful facility. We have been caravanning for 38 years so feel qualified to comment. If beautiful surroundings, a level pitch, peace and quiet and sparkly clean facilities are what you seek, you will not be disappointed. We returned home today and hope to revisit Bow Hill Farm before too long.

Bow Hill Farm

The facilities were spotless, many thoughtful touches, nice big pitch, the views stunning and a warm welcome. We particularly enjoyed being able to buy duck eggs from Charlotte for our breakfast. We hope to stay again soon.

Ticked boxs?

Have to be fair because this is a brand new site, the grass has not grown up yet so it feels a bit like a building site with bare soil and large stones (which should have been cleared) All the big boxes have been ticked but alas the small ones haven't. New toilet block which is a big tick. But, the attention to detail fails, the toilet seat doesn't stay up, the door has warped and sticks, the handles are loose, no where to read the info- table or chair would be nice, difficult to read the enclosed leaflets without them all dropping on the floor. Even though the toilet /shower block is a decent size, you cannot get out of the cubicle without an SAS course, so no thought there at all. So i didn't use the shower, just felt thrown together. Big box ticked, little box not. Nothing that a lot of TLC and a tool kit wouldn't fix. The toilet emptying place, again new. But not at all usable, the angle of the funnel sides ensure splash back - not nice. The water for rinsing is too far away so he has left a bucket. The lid has no protruding handles so you have to remove it by putting your fingers were you don't want to. Not nice on the best planned, this failed miserably. The approach track to pitch 4 & 5 is so steep that after a day of drizzle I had to be towed out with a tractor, but he did say he will have to do something about this. Hate to think what you would do if no one about and you wanted to leave. Hope the owner does make the small improvements, he has spent a lot and it wouldn't take a lot to make this a fantastic CL. There are alot of CL owners that make good from a pigs ear, no views etc but they somehow make it nice and you return because it has that feel good factor. This CL needs those little adjustments to make it nice. The £25 will ensure it's never crowded, didn't mind paying high expecting night views of the lights at Portsmouth and Isle of Wight, they were there but very far away, needed to stand on a box, too many unnecessary tall hedges, didn't like paying £35 for our last night just because there is some race meet on at Goodwood. Wish we had paid fully on the superb website so I didn't have to traipse around looking for someone, unlike the other reviewer, I don't like being disturbed with small talk :-) Visit to West Dean gardens recommend, top class walled garden, very inspirational. Two good pubs close by, one (on main road, 2mile) trying to be upper class but fails in the food department, terrific pub, decor, but staff all a bit showy and holier than thou, good beer though. The other(1mile) traditional pub in the wood, beautiful setting, down a dead end lane, good hand pull beer and decent pub grub. Their reviews have attracted a lot of negatives about the landlord but we found him fine. He has been there longer than the pub!

Is it really value for money.

We recently stayed at Bow Hill Farm for a week. We had left it late to book, and this site was available at £25.00 a night. We thought this was quite steep, but as we had no where else to go, we decided to try it out. The first thing of note, is that you can book a pitch online, this is a good idea and the process was quite easy, so we would rate this at 9/10. The site itself is as described, very peaceful and tranquil, if this is your thing,(as it is ours) then this must be rated at 10/10. The site has beautiful views. This is true, but unfortunately not from your van or immediately outside your van. There are screened hedges and trees which cut out the view. If you walk to the hedge and peer between the trees, then you do have nice views. It is a shame to have the views so close, and yet so far. We would rate the views as 5/10. The toilet block, is a shed about 5m x 3m. Perfectly clean and useable, it also doubles up as the information centre. The toilets are quite small and you have to work yourself around the doors, each of the two toilets also has a shaving point. This is not ideal. There is a shower in the shed which is fine.Overall we would rate this facility at 6/10. There is Wi-Fi available on site. It is promoted as being free to Caravan Club members, but we assume this is included in the cost make up, if this is correct, then you pay for it whether you have a computer or not. We do not think this is fair to non computer users. The service if you use it is good, so we would rate this at 7/10. The pitches are hard standing and about 8m x8m. This is a generous size and plenty big enough for van and car. The grass immediately beside the hard standing was of very poor quality, with thistles and prickles among a lot of exposed stones. You could not walk on the grass without shoes. We thought this was particularly poor and would only rate this at 2/10. We did not meet the owners in the time we were there, as we had pre-paid, we guess the owners did not need to meet up with us. We were really disappointed with this, because we believe vanners to be sociable people and enjoy the company of others, particularly the owners, we feel they should have made an effort to communicate with us in some fashion. We would rate this at 0/10. Overall, the site is quiet , clean and the facilities adequate. We felt the fact that the owners appear to use this site primarily as a business was very disappointing. A little attention to us would have been so much appreciated. We do not feel this site gives value for money,we have been to lots of CL's which we feel gave us more for our money than this one did. We noticed there were quite a few vacancies, particularly during the week, and we feel the price keeps people away. We would hope the owners take note of this review, because there is not much adjustment they need to do to make this a really good site

Peace, quiet and great facilities.

We stayed here last weekend with friends of ours. Initially the £25 put me off as that is more than we usually pay for a CL. BUT IT IS WORTH IT. Firstly we were able to book on line, we could choose our pitches and not have to race for or take last place on arrival. The shower and toilets were immaculate. The pitches themselves are stone chipping hard standings and level, they are well spaced too. The views are fantastic from the top pitches. On Friday we walked through Phillis Woods to The Royal Oak pub at Hooksway. The bridle way comes out right opposite the pub and the food was lovely......main course and two drinks for two of us was less than £30!!!!!!!  The walk took 30-40 minutes.  Saturday we went into Chichester. If you have a campervan like us then the first car park you get to has good parking on the far side over a grass verge. Ooh forgot to mention that it has wi-fi, not of prime importance for us when booking a site but made good use of it as it was there to use. Owner friendly but not intrusive. Worth the money and 5 star rating!!

Wonderful CL site

We have just stayed here for three nights, it's a relaxing.peaceful site with beautiful views over the Downs and Portsmouth in the distance. There are plenty of walks from the campsite for dogs. The facilities are very good, the shower and toilets are kept very clean. Highly recommend the duck eggs from Charlotte. We will definitely stay again !

Great CL

We picked up our new caravan and headed off to Bow Hill Farm. The site is in an elevated position and gives great views of the Sussex countryside. The pitches are a generous size with water and electricity at each. The toilet and shower facilities are located in a new cabin and are modern and clean, there is also a WiFi coverage on site. Overall a great site, nice and peaceful, good facilities, really helpful owner - will visit again!
