Chill out site no 1

Access is best via Sawley Abbey as the other way from Gisburn is more twisty/narrow/potholed. Take your time as milk tankers use this narrow route. Beware the tight bend at the Spread Eagle pub and narrow right over the bridge soon after. Little tea shop in Bolton by bowland sells nice cakes and ice lollies. Carboot on Sunday's in Clitheroe worth a visit signposted from A59. The site entrance itself is almost hidden so take your time. Track leading up to the field a little rough but nothing major. Turn left after cattle grid for CL. Best view of Pendle Hill in front of you. Most seem to pitch side on with your door facing the fence or at an angle to capture that spectacular view. Basic water, bins and chemical closet near the entrance. Use your own facilities. Farmhouse is further down the hill towards the river. We had the Beatherder festival on across the valley for the 2 nights we visited. Not that noisy and we got a fantastic fireworks display for free too! Most scenic area on the edge of the trough of bowland. Clitheroe Castle good to visit. Dog walks in the fields or as we found the cooler woodland walks were ideal for the scorching July heat. Deer and rabbits seen and is THE best place for a chill out.....and that view....did I mention the view......
