Superb site with welcoming and helpful owners

Stayed here in July. Our first impressions were very positive and continued that way, with the owners greeting us and allocating our pitch. There are plenty of places to see around the area and the owners are really knowledgeable about local places of interest. Take a look at Furnace Forge across the road from the site. You can also see and hear the fighter jets as they practice on the Mach Loop.Take a ride up into the hills to get an even better view of them. Enjoyed watching the lambs being rounded up for weaning next to the site- very impressive. A great site with lovely owners. Thanks to Gwyn for the loan of the charger.Turned out the caravan charger was burnt out. Highly recommended !

Small site with lots to offer

Stayed here for 2 nights this week in our MoHo and really enjoyed it. A warm welcome from the host, Gwyn who directed us to our spacious pitch. Plenty of room with only 6 pitches. The field is a little uneven but we managed. The toilets were lovely and clean as was the shower (tiling was looking a bit tired though) which was cleaned regularly. It's well positioned for all the local tourist places and although there was a road nearby, you couldn't hear it really. We will definitely visit again

Central location

Plenty of space on this site and on pitch 5 we had good views. Did not make use of the toilet or shower as we use or own facilities.. Central between Machynlleth & Aberystwyth on the main coast road. Easy to find and plenty of things to do in the area. We visited the Centre for Alternative Technology which was interesting and informative. Ynyslas beach not too far away and you can park on the beach for £3 all day plus dogs are allowed.

Wonderful peaceful stay and such a warm welcome.

Lovely friendly welcome and spacious pitches and easy access off the main road with bus stop about 200m away in village. Shower and toilets clean and tidy. We had glorious walks to Borth in one direction (train and bus back) and Machynlleth in the opposite direction (bus back). River walk just off site for shorter walk. Furnace monument opposite is interesting. Would definitely return!

Wonderful week in June.

We had a wonderful week here in June. Great CL. as we were staying for a week the owner had put us on pitch 6 (6 pitches so he can rotate them) on a hump at the far end of the field. We were not impressed at first but once we had pitched we realised we had the best views on the site towards the mountains and red kite swooping around us everyday. We love mid Wales and visit most years and this is one of the best CL's we have found in the area. Purpose built toilet and shower block was good to have. So much to see and do. Narrow gauge steam railways into the mountains at Twyn and Aberystwyth. Local Wildlife Trust site nearby with Ospreys nesting and the cafe there is very good. We fell in love with Aberdovey with it's beautiful beach. Walking is great in the mountains even if like us you can't get to the top of the big ones anymore.

Lovely!

We stayed here for 2 weeks in April but I've only just got round to giving a review! This is a lovely site in a lovely area and well maintained by the owners. Some traffic noise can be heard from the main road but we didn't find it at all disturbing. The advantage of the main road is that it is easy to get to the site and visiting the local area. The furnace ruin (opposite the site) is worth seeing, the RSPB Ynys-hir and the Osprey Centre. It was our second visit and won't be the last!

"Perfect"

We have just returned from a week on this beautiful site and I wish we could have stayed longer. We were due to arrive on site around 6.00pm however due to heavy traffic we didn’t arrive until 8.45pm we had emailed to say we would be late and when we arrived we were met by Gwyn who showed us our pitch and where all the facilities were. Access to the site is easy straight off the A487, if you’re coming from Machynlleth look out for the huge waterwheel on the left, the turning into the site is almost immediately afterwards on the right. If coming from Aberystwyth look out for a car sales garage on your left then the site is the next turning on the left. The site is large with 2 pitches at the bottom of the field 2 to the side and 2 at the top which are on higher ground. The shower block and water are at the bottom by the entrance gate as are the recycling bins. There is a further separate field that is used for camping hence the shared facilities, during our stay there was one tent and a couple of campervans that stayed for one or two nights. The facilities consisted of one male and one female toilet along with one separate shower room this had a good quality electric shower that was plenty hot and had good pressure, there was no extra charge for the shower. All the facilities were cleaned every day and were spotless. Machynlleth is about a 15min drive away and is a lovely town with lots of independent shops and a station from where two returns to Aberystwyth cost us £15.00. there are a number of lovely beaches nearby including Borth, Ynyslas, Aberdyfi and Tywyn. If you visit Borth you must take a look at their boutique cinema “Libanus 1877” it is probably the most beautiful cinema you are ever likely to see, we managed to get tickets to see Top Gun: Maverick, once you have experienced the “armchairs” you will never want to go to a normal cinema again. There are a number of walks from the site including access to the Wales coastal path and a lovely walk to a RSPB nature reserve, on the way look out for the Ynyshir a Michelin star restaurant owned by Gareth Ward where lunch or dinner will cost you £350.00!! Alternatively you could try Cletwr which is a community run café and shop that is 2.5 miles from the site on the road to Aberystwyth where the meals are considerably less expensive and the shop is full of local produce. If you are planning a trip to mid Wales you won’t go wrong staying on this site, Gwyn and his lovely wife Glenda are the perfect hosts and they run what I consider to be a perfect CL, we will be returning.

Our First Trip Away !

This was our first trip away in our caravan and we are so pleased we found this lovely site. Access was easy off of the main road and we were greeted by the lovely owners. We pitched up at the far end of the field up on the higher ground which meant we had beautiful views but a bit exposed when windy. The whole field is very well drained but depending on where pitched you will may need levelling blocks. Recycling facilities were very easy to use. We had a great 4g signal which meant we could use our router with sim card for internet. Our cassette toilet in the caravan broke half way through the week so we needed to use the toilets on site, they were always spotless and seemed to be cleaned a few times a day. We had our dog with us and went for plenty of walks from the site. The Furnace opposite the road was lovely and my 10 year old enjoyed the simple interactive information boards. We visited lots of places such as Ynyslas Beach, Aberystwyth, Centre for Alternative Technology and Coed y Brenin Forest Park. We payed £19 per night, 2 adults, 1 dog, 1 child and an awning. Thank you so much for providing us with a great first holiday in our caravan.

Great overnight stay

Lovely site with very friendly owners. Stayed here for one night when we woke up the following morning we realised we had a puncture in one of the rear wheels on our campervan. The owners couldn't of been more helpful lending us a tyre inflator to pump our tyre up so we could drive to the nearest garage to get it repaired. Would highly recommend this site and will be back.

Furnace Farm

Another enjoyable stay at Furnace Farm. Due to restrictions on travel, etc., we weren't able to take our normal break in June as so made a short break in August. The views are stunning as always, especially when camped at the top of higher ground. Some lovely walks along the Welsh Coast Path through woodland and open heath in the hills at the back of Furnace village. Understandably Mrs Griffiths had closed the facilities block due to Covid as it meant constant cleaning for her. She is also trying to encourage more recycling as general waste is only collected every three week. The ground is slightly undulating so you may need to level motorhomes or caravans with chocks or jacks but we usually find a good balance without too much effort. Despite heavy rain at times the field is well drained and didn't become water logged. Motorhomers will need a portable grey water tank to dispose of waste. Looking forward to returning next year.
