Challenging Access

We booked to stay on this site in our 24 foot long motorhome, aware that the Club description advised caution for large outfits assuming that this referred to large cars towing twin axle caravans etc. We followed the recommended directions which involved driving down an extremely narrow lane with vertical hedges rubbing on the sides of our not unusually wide van most of the way.  The turn onto the site drive meant us almost doubling back on ourselves which was only possible after some considerable shunting back and forth. This route was uneven and gravelled and was difficult for us to climb without grounding at the rear. After some perseverance we climbed up to the farm in order to drive through past some farm buildings to reach the field as the owner had instructed. Our route was pot holed which even at extremely low speed caused the van to rock sideways causing great difficulty in negotiating a tight gateway where we came within millimeters of damaging our van on the roof of the building to our left.  Once past this problem there was finally only one very sharp turn remaining and at this stage we reluctantly, and for the first time ever had to admit defeat and decided to leave. Upon finally reaching the narrow access road once again we could not avoid grounding out which unfortunately did incur some damage to our towbar. The owner was however quite helpful and assisted us in our predicament. We did see a couple of smaller caravans on the site so access is not impossible however we would imagine this site is best suited to smaller vehicles.
