A little gem of a site

We stayed in late March in our caravan with sunshine every day. OK so yes it is expensive for a CL especially for basic facilities and £5 a night is well over the top for an awning and we don't usually go to such sites - but - we are so glad we did. The nearby commercial sites were more expensive and I know where I'd rather stay. We booked in for 6 nights and ended up staying for for 10 (forgoing said awning!) The site has 3 hardstanding pitches on the low ground for the wet months and a higher grass area with better views in the summer. However we had a brilliant view of the mountain panorama from our hardstanding which we spent many hours admiring. As you'd expect, the normal water supply is in the field but perversely the pressure isn't what you may expect but OK. I think they may put another near the hardstandings for motorhomes as they currently need to use the bungalows outside tap. There is a dedicated sink for grey water accessible for motorhomes. Recycling is available and the chemical disposal (green) is just across the shared drive in the field near the gate. While they have attempted to lay a shale path, but it's still very difficult to run a full tank and you need to lift it to the disposal point so don't leave it until it's full! The disposal point is good with a ledge to rest on and the usual tap and hose for rinsing. Electrics are 16amp with TV booster cables needed to connect to the plugs on the electric posts. (But we didn't need TV. The B Road from Ambleside does have some narrow places but don't let it put you off. It's not busy and the buses can get down it. There are plenty of places to pass and you can mainly see what's coming. You just need to be a bit careful and take it slowly, it's only a few miles. Be aware there are no signs indicating you've found the right place! The joy of this site is it's location. On the edge of wonderful Hawkshead with access to numerous walks from the site in all directions. We hardly used the car. The shops and cafe staff were really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again! Wonderful!
