September 2021 visit

This site has a great location for peace and quiet and tranquility. It is also well maintained. It is a five minute drive into Cromer which is a great seaside town. It is also situated ideally for other local villages and beaches. Although Thorpe Market doesn’t have any amenities the surrounding villages do. The site is very spacious with a lovely backdrop of woods. The pitches have a water tap which is excellent as it saves having tea fetch water. The on-site shower and toilets are clean and adequate. For a peaceful holiday or a weekend break you can’t do much better than this.

Excellent CL

This CL is well situated for easy access to Cromer. The local village has no facilities at all. The site is extensive and each pitch has a massive area to pitch in. We were on Pitch 1 which has a superb position. The owners are friendly and both greeted us on arrival. EHU is 16A and there are the usual facilities. TV reception was very poor but internet was good. There is some road noise but we didn't find it obtrusive. The daily charge is £15 and not as quoted in the CMAC book. To sum up, we thought the CL was excellent and would definitely return.

Recent Visit

The facilities are basic but they are clean. A few creepy crawlies due to being housed in shed. Based in the lower field our pitch was particularly dry and sandy with pine needles. We hadn't realised this so would recommend other caravanners check this out before pitching as a lot of dirt gets tracked into the awning. We should have pitched on full grass but that was our mistake. We did find the road noise intrusive. It is a very busy road and needs care when turning out as the traffic is busy and travelling at a high speed. My main concern was that in the top paddock and indeed the caravanner sited next to us did not keep their dogs tethered. We noticed this throughout our stay. Just before our departure I took our small dog for a quick walk around the woods (on a lead) and through the top paddock. Whilst walking through the top paddock a loose lurcher type dog attacked our dog. It was very frightening and myself and the dog owner had to physically separate them. Luckily there was no damage but a few seconds later I think my dog would have been badly wounded or even killed. I was so upset we left the site immediately. I would request that the owners of the site please enforce the rule that dogs should not be left untethered even if their owners are outside with them. A quick check is all it needs. Because of this traumatic event we would not return.

FANTASTIC WEEK

We have just returned from a beautiful week in what was our own dingly dell. We had a warm welcome from the owners. The site has a wonderful wood which was perfect for walking our two dogs. The site was clean and well presented and it is a bonus that there is a toilet and shower if you want to use it. We were in the top filed and for most of the week we were on our own. It is an easy drive into Cromer and is in an ideal location for exploring the area. We will definately be returning a great find.

Four Fabulous Nights

We booked this CL at very short notice and were amazed what good value it turned out to be with very helpful owners, the site is lovely, tidy, spacious, sheltered and secluded. The site has a choice of pitches all with their own water, TV and mains hook up.There are well organised re-cycling facilities a well stock information hut as well as very adequate toilet emptying facilities, toilets, shower room and laundry room. The site is surrounded by its own woodland which has plenty of room for exercising your pets. Being at the heart of North Norfolk your in easy reach of the coast as well as some wonderful towns, villages and stately homes. The village of Roughton about 3 miles away has a well stocked shop as well as a Fish & Chip. If you prefer just to relax by your caravan you can as you watch the wildlife. Will we return, most certainly as soon as we get the chance.

Our 4 night stay

We stayed on this CL for 4 nights in August 2018. The site itself is in two areas, we stayed on the larger one, but with two other caravans on the site we were pitched closest to the main A149 which was very busy! The site is well maintained, with good dog walking in the extensive woods. We found the facilities to be rather scruffy and outdated and in need of a good clean, we did not use them. Overall, a nice stay, but would not return.

Comment from the CL Owners:

Glad to hear you had a nice stay. In response, we have had people comment before on noise from the A149 - both that it is intrusive but also just as many as to how quiet it can be. To clarify, the closest pitch to the A149 is across the CL field, a tree'ed hedge, the orchard field, and a second hedge. The road at this point has a speed limit of 30mph and can be busy during the day-time, but is quiet at night. Your stay coincided with Cromer Carnival week, and as the A149 is one of the routes into Cromer, it was probably much busier than usual during your break. I think people's perception of noise is very dependent on where they they live. With regards to the facilities (I am assuming toilet and shower), I do describe them as functional and most definitely not luxurious to any enquiries. Most guests are understanding, find them adequate, and a bonus considering they are included in the site fees. Being in a conservation area and a listed property, replacing them with a new shower block has proved very challenging, but they are cleaned a minimum of three times each week - properly scrubbed with bleach and the floors mopped as opposed to rinsed. We do not make an additional charge to use them, there is hot water and a supply of toilet roll. Thank you for commenting the site is well maintained and that you enjoyed walking your dog in our forest. We wish you many more delightful holidays on CL's.

Nice site

Just returned from an 8 night stay at this CL , this being our 2nd visit. The site is split into 2 fields.we were on the main site ,I think the owners split the bookings between the 2 fields to avoid the feeling of over crowding, we were with 2 other units at most and had the field to our self for 2 days !. It's a nice site surrounded by trees and has a private woodland behind which is fantastic if you are a dog owner. The field was well kept and mown before our arrival. As others have mentioned the toilet and shower facilities are old but functional , to be honest you can't moan about the facilities as for £10 a night you can pay more for a CL with no facilities at all so I think it's unfair to criticise. The owners are friendly and i think this will be our regular site for our Future holidays in the area.. it is ideal for holidays with family members who don't caravan as the rental cottages look nice and are close to the site. I should mention that the site is next to an A road but it's not too busy so don't let that put you off.

Simply wonderful

We arrived at this CL and were taken aback by the stunning surroundings, so idyllic. Perfect for us as we could enjoy walks with the dog in the woods and sit under the stars at night in total peace. Owners friendly, facilities basic but adequate. If you are after total escape and peace and quiet then this is the place, my family had the best holiday here and we will definitely return.

A Favourite for us

Booked this cl before seeing other reviews, but don't let them put you off! We really enjoyed our stay, such a peaceful setting, and lots of room. Woke each morning to sound of wind in tall pine trees. Particularly liked the direct walks from site into the edge of the forest, and so much to do and visit within a short drive; Cromer, north coast , Blickling Hall, the Broads, etc. We arrived at the end of Easter week, and the site was full for the first night, but as the field is an L shape, we couldn't see more than 2 others from our pitch, which was very spacious. Friendly owner met us on arrival, and we were allowed a choice of pitch. She warned us that one bit of the field was sometimes boggy, so we just drove round it, it wasn't a problem.  Any toilets or showers on a CL are a bonus, and we found these more than adequate. They are a bit basic, but clean enough, even after a Bank Holiday. And they are Free! If you want immaculate facilities, don't go for a peaceful countryside CL! Don't usually write reviews of our favourite CLs, as we like to keep them to ourselves, but felt I simply had to offer a balance to the other reviews: We really loved this one, and would definitely go again.
