We stayed on this site for 5 nights towards the end of June. What a wonderful site. We received a lovely, sincere welcome on arrival, were shown to a sizeable, flat, pitch with full service facilities including black waste. The site was exceptionally, well maintained with regular cleaning of a large shower/toilet block. The restaurant was extremely popular, so much so that , if you were unable to book a table you could always get a takeaway and the quality of the food was particularly good. This was an idyllic site and was extremely peaceful and picturesque. Unfortunately, the weather, during our stay, wasn't particularly kind which prevented us using the swimming pool, but we nevertheless took advantage of the local walks, in this rural part of France. The owners, Claudine, Jean and son obviously took great pride in making sure their guests were well looked after and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. We will certainly be looking to return in the future.
As we were driving towards the campsite, storm warnings had been regularly signposted everywhere on our motorway route. We were allocated a huge super pitch at the far end of the site which provided water & grey water disposal and elsan chemical disposal on each pitch. The pitch sloped towards the lake and was huge (at around 300 sq mts). The storms duly arrived during night one and two!!
The toilet & shower block also housed a laundry; dish washing and an information room in the centre of the site. There was also tiny shop (poorly stocked) along with a bar; restaurant and swimming pool at the opposite end of the site (around a 12 minute walk from our pitch). Bread and croissants were able to be ordered and collected through the reception.
The area was lacking somewhat in places of interest but within five miles there are two very scenic places worthy of a visit. The first was where truly massive volcanic boulders had been laid down many millenia before and, secondly there is a viewing tower with 360 degree views across the whole region that had the appearance of a lighthouse. Both these places are south of Boussac.
Site owners Claudine and Jean were looking forward to becoming busier soon after our stay as we reckoned on no more than a dozen to fifteen units being on site at any one time during our week.
What a gem.
My wife and I have just returned from 2 weeks at this delightful site. For couples this must be one of the best sites for a relaxed and peaceful holiday. The facilities and site in general are first class & spotless and the staff were always attentive without being over bearing.
The weather whilst we were there was not typical, but everywhere seems to have suffered from unreliable weather. We had long hot spells which usually ended in a thunderstorm.
I also enjoyed the fishing which will suit the casual fisherman. 9 x double figure carp (best 17lb) in 4 short trips - I found early morning best but also caught during the heat of the day, but be warned there is little shade and it can get hot.
All in all a very nice holiday and we will return.

We arrived in early July and stayed for six nights. The site was very quite which surprised us, because everything about Le Chateau de Poinsouze we thought was fabulous! The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, the pitch was enormous (leveling blocks required) with uninterrupted views over the lake. The shower/WC/Laundry facilities were all spotless and the swimming pool was never crowded. The local area is very rural with some lovely little villages that are well worth exploring. All in all great location for some R&R.
We stayed here in early July and the site was still very quiet. We had a lovely pitch overlooking the lake - very big although we needed levelling blocks. Views and wildlife amazing.
The toilet facilities are very good and clean, the shop well stocked and we had a nice meal in the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and helpful particularly when we needed to visit the gendarmerie to report damage to our caravan on the motorway. We would never have managed on our own without Monsieur accompanying us!
We would love to return here.
We stayed here for 3 weeks in May/June.
The site was lovely and quiet with only about ten vans pitched at any one time.
We wanted peace and quiet and we certainly got it.
We were sited on the largest pitch 105 at the far side of the lake, with our own electricity. water and toilet waste emptying facility.
There are pedalo's and canoes for hire on the lake and a swimming pool, which unfortunately only opened when we were about to leave.
Mme speaks fluent English but encourages you to speak French and we learned a few new choice phrases.
There are a number of Chateaux to visit and Boussac, which is only 3km away is worth spending time visiting. Unfortunately the guide does not speak English, but we managed with the little French we understand.
There is a lovely Carrefour in Boussac, which also sells fuel 14/7, we went to larger supermarkets further afield, but found this one far superior.
The Thursday market in Boussac is a must, with everything you may need.
There are also a number of Brocante outlets in the area where you can spend time browsing.
This is not a site for families we don't think, but if you want peace and quiet, at this time of year it has it in spades.
We stayed here en route to Switzerland. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the site was very pretty and the facilities were excellent with water, electricity, and drainage for both grey and black water on the pitch. Most pitches seemed to be slightly sloping when blocks might be necessary. We were there in May when there were only three or four other caravans on site. We had dinner in the restaurant which, unfortunately, was very disappointing. For a stopover it is rather a long way from the main road but is ideal if you want a very quiet holiday in rural France.
We stayed at the end of their season so it was very quiet, but still nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The location is a little far out from anything and you really do need transport to get anywhere, but if you're looking for peace and quiet and just want to relax then you've come to the right place. It has a beautiful lake great walks and lovely little on-site restaurant. We had our dog with us and he enjoyed all the different walks that were really easy to get to directly from the site. I can imagine that this site is extremely popular in high season especially with all the amenities it has to offer. The owner (Lady of the Chateau) told us that she loved meeting all the different nationalities that visit her site throughout the year. I can understand why it is one of the best sites we stayed on whilst visiting France, this year.
We booked for six nights in August. A beautiful site with large pitches. The owners and staff were all so helpful and friendly. We went to the ' White' festival which included an excellent meal followed by a great band. Well worth a visit.
We booked this site for 2 weeks as we wanted to do nothing but relax with our two boys, aged 5 & 8.
This site was fantastic - the owners are great as are all of the staff who work there.
The location is in the middle of nowhere, but that didn't bother us.
There was a free 'Kids Club' twice a day and a fishing in the lake that our boys loved, which again cost nothing.
Most people seem to use it as a stop-over site for a few days on their way home or on the way south as it is in the middle of nowhere, but for us it was the perfect place for some chilled caravanning.
Pitch was absolutely massive and we will definitely be going back.
