What a Difference a Year Makes

Ilfracombe Caravan Club Site
My wife and I have visited this site for over 25 years and upto this year we have been worried that it was going to close Until these present wardens arrived the site was poorly neglected We were amazed at the hard work they have put in from signage, timber around the service areas and removed the rotten fencing at the entrance, even the 5mph on roadway repainted What a credit they are along with the relief wardens After saying all this for people who haven't been its a great base for touring North Devon but remember there are no facilities But who wants them with the modern caravan

Nice quiet site, access fun!

Ilfracombe Caravan Club Site
A nice site, pitches are amongst the most generous I've seen on any club site. Our visit was tarnished by very wet and windy weather, but in spite of this the pitch remained dry. Dog walk is excellent, spoiled by an arrogent minority of owners who didn't clean up after their dogs. Being on a hill, its windier and more exposed than the areas around (clue: there are quite a few windmills around) so tends to be a bit cooler. The access to the site is a bit "hairy" once you leave the main road, we were lucky as we didn't meet a tractor, bus or other outfit. Once the 'van is parked you can have fun exploring the local roads. We generally found our fellow caravanners to be a friendly bunch. Pub food around is not of a high standard, but once you accept that Burgers are the norm, you can live with it. Exception to this is the Fox & Goose at Perracombe (20 min drive) the food there is outstanding. Many pubs don't look that great from the outside, but are nice inside. We found Ilfracombe a little jaded but ok for a day visit. "Verity" is worth a visit at the harbour and parking was plentiful when we visited. Parking at other places is at a premium, especially at the beach resorts. Charges are consistent throughout as most are Council operated. £1.10 per hour up to 4 hours £4.40 is the most you'll pay.

Spacious green site

Ilfracombe Caravan Club Site
As we like the minimal facility sites, I've considered booking before, and been slightly deterred by apparent slopes. That was a misperception as it's not hard to find somewhere level - didn't even have to use leveliing blocks. It looks green too, which is always good if the ground is firm and having had one overnight of incessant rain while there, it seems to drain well enough not to require a hardstanding. The abundance of green space is a delight, and much more appealing than the gravelly style the club seems to favour. Its open nature on high ground does mean the availability of shelter is not as good as some sites, but 'swings and roundabouts'. Access to Ilfracombe means a short drive. Like many coastal towns it's not all glam but the town and harbour and well worth a visit. What you make of the 'cooling tower' theatre or Damien Hirst's "Verity" will depend upon your taste but the coast is pretty spectacular. On our visit, while the winds blew and showers fell back at the caravan site, it was sunny and warm in the valley below. Our visit was just two nights, but I reckon we'll be back.

Peaceful location

Ilfracombe Caravan Club Site
Lovely peaceful site near Ilfracombe. Access down a lane but no problem with a motor home.Site is on a slope over two fields but used levelling blocks so fine.Site has a large amount of service points but no toilet block. Wardens very helpful and site is very clean and well maintained. Much cheaper than many caravan club sites .Has a dog field and a field for children to run around in . Would definitely stop there again . Great location for Exmoor and North Devon

Helpful, pleasant and hard working wardens

Ilfracombe Caravan Club Site
The helpful, pleasant and hard working wardens are the best that we have ever come across since we joined the Club over 20 years ago. This lovely site is set in beautiful countryside with pleasant country views. It has more water and waste points than any other CAM club sites that we have visited and they are kept spotlessly clean. There are wonderful beaches within a few miles of the site. For those people who don't mind using their own facilities and want to visit this part of beautiful Devon, I thoroughly recommend this site. We will definitely come back here again.
