Why stay here ...

Set in a quiet, simple and spacious location, Stover Club Site lies next to a beautiful country park on the edge of Dartmoor. If you crave a tranquil break and a wealth of lovely scenic walks, this is the ideal caravan site for your holiday. The Stover Park itself offers a variety of walks - you can choose secure expeditions guided by the Park staff or if you fancy something more challenging the wilder terrains of Dartmoor nearby are waiting to be discovered.

Visitors to Stover Club Site can enjoy the other aspects of Dartmoor by following the nature trail through a lovely valley to see Becky Falls. You can also opt for a leisurely drive to Canonteign for another country park well worth visiting as well as a host of delightful waterfalls. There is also a memorable Heritage Trail near the caravan park called the Templer Way; it runs from Haytor right through to the sea at Shaldon.

Less than a mile away is Trago Mills Family shopping and Leisure Park which includes super karts, trawler boats, steam and model railways plus an interactive animal enclosure so there is something for everyone nearby.

Digital TV signal booster in operation (no lead required).

Please note: this site does not have a toilet block.

Walking notes:

Dartmoor National Park is the largest and wildest area of open country in Southern England, with over 368 square miles of moorland, forest and woodland. Stover Country Park is adjacent to the site, via a public footpath to the rear of the site and along a disused railway track. The park has a lake, walking routes, nature centre, aerial walkway and is great for dogs.

Check out our ViewRanger walk.

Supermarket notes:

The nearest supermarket is the Co-Op next to Trago Mills, 2.3 miles away and with motorhome access. Tesco is just outside Newton Abbot – proceed towards the town and then follow the signs for Newton Abbot Racecourse. Sainsbury's is just off the Penn Inn Roundabout on the A380. Asda is in the town centre.

Handy location

Stover site is really easy to find, just off A38. It is located on the edge of a country park with lots of footpaths and a lake. We found a pitch near the centre of the site which was lovely and sunny, but others could be quite shady. There is a co-op within a mile, and we cycled, although the road was quite busy. We found a national cycle route which is accessed through the country park (you just have to wheel the bikes until you reach the tarmac path) and it is easy to access Newton Abbot or Bovey Tracey. The route follows an old canal so is fairly level when you get to it, although it is a good downhill to get to it (and therefore an uphill on the way back). It was well kept and clean, but no toilet block, which we knew beforehand and weren’t looking for anyway. The only thing we found was that the A38 could always be heard in the background - probably not a problem if you live in a town, but we’re not used to it so found it quite noisy. The country park is quite peaceful and it is worth following the signs to the Canadian war memorial (especially as the sun is going down).

Full Marks to the wardens during this difficult time

Stover is one of the cleanest and tidiest CAMC sites we have ever stayed on. The wardens gave clearly worked very hard to achieve the high standards they gave achieved. A very big thankyou:

Noise through the night, toilets.

Stayed here for two nights Pros - Great location off A38. Great dog walk. Fantastic park next door. Cons - No toilets for such a large site (21 century ?). 5 van site understood this site can't understand. If your pitch is towards the entrance of the site there's quite a bit of road noise all night. Suppose this is the down side to having such a convenient location of an A road.

One poor pitch on a fabulous site

I was allocated pitch 35 (without awning) and this rather spoilt what is otherwise a fabulous site. Why did it spoil it? Well, pitch 35 is on the edge of the site and had 3 distinct disadvantages. 1. It slopes strongly to the rear, which meant reversing onto levelling blocks, not too big a problem. 2. It is totally shaded by a number of beautiful large trees and did not get any sun at all at any time of day so I jealously watched everyone else basking in the sun while I sat outside with a fleece on, once again not the end of the world. 3 and a big 3. The pitch is right on the dog walk and dogs naturally cant wait so they start pooing right outside your van (everyone picked up), whilst they are pooing the owners are gawking into the van until a happy wave embarrasses them to turn away. So in summary sat in the shade watching the dogs poo, owners gawk and worried the van was going to slide of the blocks in the night. Did I complain, no, well why. I was grateful to get the very last pitch on the day I arrived, I still had all the benefits of friendly knowledgeable staff, I was on a clean and secure site with well maintained motorhome facilities and I was in a great location, most of all the 4 nights were incredibly competitively priced. In my view pitch 35 should be taken out of service until a hedge can be planted and matured to separate it from the dog walk. I will definitely use the site again just be adamant i wont go on number 35 Blue.

Just What We Needed

This was our first holiday in our campervan and since lockdown. The site was lovely and peaceful, although full for the bank holiday. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We had decided we would use our own facilities so this site worked perfectly for us. We had a lovely chilled few days taking advantage of the beautiful walks accessible directly from the site.
