Hi, been a member of the club 18 yrs never been on here.

Left my caravan in the south of France.. going back to it in Sept for a week. Retired in July then 'lost ' my partner in Feb... frown  seriously looking to buy a motorhome to be independent  and visit places from my childhood. Any advice, support would be appreciated to help me get started and try to be more 'normal'.

Sorry that you find yourself alone.  There are many club members who camp alone.  A club called the New Companions Camping Club organises meets throughout the UK.

www.newcompanions.org.uk

Many of their members also meet up while abroad. While some keep their caravans, some change to motorhomes.  I did that 18 months ago.  It is not better or worse, but different.  There are threads further up the discussions comparing the different choices.

All the best for the future.

wink Hi Margiebh2.Welcome along to 'solos'.Many of us on here have VERY similar circumstances as yourself too.I found being amongst like minded people helped ,as we shared our grief, our travels, our experiences etc, helped to ease the trauma and pain of loosing a loved one ,and to face the future. We all have our memories, the good times and the not so good BUT ,but we must never forget.respect the past and look forward ,no one can predict the future, you don't know what's up front .Take it day by day ,listen to your intuition .I found 'somebody ' up there may be pulling the strings and things happen !! Hang on in there ,be brave.Good luck ."Triky"cool.

Hi Triky...

Thanks for the sound, most helpful, advice. You are so right with your reflections and I too feel someone is up there... we are being looked after kiss although at times we feel alone we are not ! In my own experience (driving alone a number of times) I know I was 'helped' on one potentially disastrous trip. So your kind words ring true and certainly have given me a boost.

Am going to look at motorhomes over the next few weeks and take a trip to my van in Sept.smile

Thanks again

Margie

Just on way home, but have been travelling up from Spain for the last two months. Leaving France for Luxembourg tomorrow.

Enjoy your trip in September.  Sometimes it is good to go back to places with memories, but sometimes we all need to make new memories elsewhere. All the best

I must apologise for not posting for quite a long while.

The beginning of the year didn’t start well for me, the operation n my spine in December 2016 never worked. This meant back pain continuously for months.  In May I went away to Devizes C&CC site for a long weekend. I survived but crawled home, so one last push at the Doctors to get my back sorted.

Mid June Saw my Mum go to hospital with blood poisoning and kidney failure, she lived in Carlisle, but I had rang her every night for the last 6 years, but step father cared for her, so I went to Cornwall on the last weekend of June. I returned home mid July a few days before I was admitted to hospital for another spine procedure that would hopefully work!

mid August saw me able to travel, so I made my way to Widley Fort in Portsmouth for a few days. Before I left, my mum was back at home again but deteriating.

7 days after leaving Portsmouth, I went to Broadway C&NC with Sandra Bebbington. I had a lovely time, but whilst away my Mum got a lot worse. I returned home on the 6th September, she was in a very bad state.

Monday the 11th September, my dear mum lost her fight and passed away.  Monday the 18th I travelled with my son driving, 600+ miles in one day to Carlisle for her funeral. I got home that night to be threatened by my neighbour so had to call the Police.

all the above, plus DVLA loosing all my ID left me in a numb state. I had no idea what the last year had done to me until I found out on Monday.

I had not slept due to pain in my chest, so made an appointment at my doctors for 10.30 Monday morning.I went in to my appointment and left in an Ambulance, siren and lights going on my way to A&E.  Suspected heart attack or blood clot,

I was discharged eventually and sent home for two weeks rest.

I have a greatly raised heart rate, which they said was an advanced warning to chill, or have a heart attack, no blood clots, but I know have arthritis of the Brest bone.  The heart rate was causing heart pain and the arthritic breast bone was mimicking a heart attack.  So, I have now been warned,  Stop worrying, stop stressing and relax,

Today I had another appointment at the hospital for my back pain, they said the procedures that I had are now withdrawn due to lack of funding, although he was going to let me have one a year and he was going to loss the cost in the fundings where and when he can. No guarantee,

no ops and I will end up in a wheelchair, 😥
