Club Shop Bargain? I think not

I seem to recall previous discussions regarding the "bargains" available to Club Members. Here's one I found today.

Al-Ko soft dock for the 3004 stabiliser hitch head. Reg price £45.89, members reduced price £41.30.

I bought one yesterday from Taunton Trailers for £14 + £4 postage, it has just arrived, less than 24hrs later.

You can keep your shop thankyou.

£23.99 on ebay , less on several other sites.  Where are the CAMC bargains?   Probably the last place I'd look !

Like much of CAMC offerings. Suggestion that sites are bargains, along with apparent savings on overseas sites which can be bettered elsewhere does little to encourage one to trust CAMC.

I think uncompetitive pricing of accessories is an indication that it is field the club probably shouldn't be attempting to operate, there is just too much well established and organised competition. However the overseas booking is IMO not far short of exploitation of the understandable   nervousness of first time travellers used to the UK way of doing things.  Regular travellers will be well aware many if  not all of those sites do not except for a very small window of the season need booking in advance, The honest advice would be to warn members not to bother out of season but of course there wouldn't be any commercial sense doing so.

Agree with you there, I remember when we came back to traveling overseas we booked out first and last night via the club along with our ferries.

At no point were we advised that, at that time of year we wouldn't need to pre book or the fact that if we bought some camping cheques or joined Acsi we could cut our pitch fee by 50% all new to us since it had been 30+ years since our last venture abroad with the van.

We soon learnt from others we spoke to and of course lots of good info from CT users.

As to bargains with the club, there are some but you do have to dig deep for them. We got a very good price for a towbar and money off a washing machine.

I don't think its fair to make a judgement based on one product line when theres 1000's more to choose from.

Some products are competative, and others less so.

Sorry TimboC, trying to work my way through the 1000's, just found another 'bargain'---- replacement pop-up clic-clac bathroom basin plug. From Pirima £18.35 + £3.88 p&p =£22.23, on Amazon £8.99 with free delivery to my corner shop. My initilal thinking and post was on the lines of what Deleted User User said, "I think uncompetitive pricing of accessories is an indication that it is field the club probably shouldn't be attempting to operate, there is just too much well established and organised competition".
