Unable to access the free wi-fi on Club sites

I have searched for this topic to no avail so hopefully I can get some answers here and feel that this area is probably the best place to post. Moderators please feel free to move if you think best.

I have recently visited two sites at Baltic Wharf & Tewkesbury that have good Wi-Fi. I wanted to post site reviews and decided I would use the free access to the Club's website to do so rather than using my data. However I could not get onto the free website from the Airangel log in screen. Each time I clicked on the button to the web site, which is how I used to do it before, I got a message something like unable to access the server due to security issues. I have done this successfully before but normally on a laptop although I have used both this iPhone and tablet previously too. This time both my iPhone and Android tablet could not get access.

Is there a problem or am I doing something wrong or has the free access now been removed. I could get there via my own data connection so the website was working.

Regards, Roy

Why did you activate them before going?

We carry 2 or 3 and just start using (activate) them as needed.

We use a small portable router to plug the dongle into and then we can both connect tablets/laptops at the same time.

Kjell, the reason was that I could not get a definite answer as to whether you could activate abroad - even from '3' themselves.  This was also allied to the (supposed) widely discussed issue that you could only use a particular SIM for a maximum of 1 month (calender or 30 days??) in a 'feel-at-home' country.

You apparently been able to successfully activate a new SIM abroad. .....out of interest, which countries?

'3's policies and implementation seem to be obscure and variable. Maybe they vary according to which network you connect to abroad/what device you have/what tariff you are on ..............who knows!.

All our phone and data SIMs remained active for over 3 months in Spain.  We even had a dual-SIM smartphone and had both a phone and a data SIM installed, and both worked according to what we were using the phone for.  As soon as we got back to UK, the data SIM stopped working and we got a message from '3' saying phone set-up incorrect!!

I use a dongle with an Alfa R36 router. This works well in UK, but seemed very slow on the few occasions I tried it in Spain.....it seemed to be reverting to GPRS.  The data connection on the smartphone in contrast was excellent speed 3G in the same locations, but of course would not allow tethering (as '3' clearly state).
