Why did CC buy Alan Rogers?

I wonder if you could explain why the club has bought a commercial organisation, namely Alan Rogers, that seems to have brought no benefit to members?  For example, this month the Magazine is promoting (advert disguised as a news item) a walking tour of the Cote d'Opale in northern France.  High season cost for two people is £818 for three nights bed and breakfast accommodation and a return Dover/Calais crossing.  The DEAREST crossing I can find is £178 so that indicates that the price for 2 people B & b is £213 a night.  The walk is self guided (i.e. here’s a map) and no evening meal or anything else is included.

Not only is this outrageously expensive but I would question the relevance to caravanners.  (Or indeed to anyone else at that price.)
