I smiled when I read your post Kerry, (which is the first post I have so far read on this site), because I know exactly how you feel and I could have written your post myself. 

Tinwheeler is right, though, I have watched and downloaded dozens of good videos in the past 6 weeks, which is when I bought my caravan, an Elddis Odyssey 462 2010. I have to watch them and then go outside and look at whatever it is I'm trying to learn about.

I never realised that a caravan was such a technical thing! But I'm glad I bought it and I'm slowly getting to understand what's got to be learned and what's involved. For now, I enjoy sneeking out to have a quiet coffee in there by myself (made in the house). It's not meant to be parked in the back garden (which isn't that big) but it can stay there for the winter now and be my little 'Wendy House'.  I do have bigger plans for it, honest.

The good news, Christine & Kerry, is that older vans are much easier to understand than present day versions with their computerised electronic control systems 👍🏻

Hello and welcome Kerry, and Christine😁 TW is spot on there with older caravans being a lot easier to use and mend, there’s less technology, so less of the fiddly and expensive stuff to go wrong! Good that you have a manual, give it a good read, and Google what you need to, but I will give you a link from the Club as well that offers a lot of good advice…..

Older vans are just so easy to repair and make very much your own with a bit of help and DIY. We have a really old van, from 1984, part way through her second restoration since we have owned her from 1996. Staff on Club Sites are always very helpful as well👍, as are lots of Members. Go to top right of this page, click on “advice and training” and there’s all sorts of useful information in there about various things caravan related like fridges, batteries, etc…..

Perhaps now is the time to make the coffee in the caravan as well as drinking it there.  Get to know about more of the things you can do there.  Even have the adventure of an overnight stay?

 Kerry, perhaps you could contact the secretary of your local rally centre and they might know of a member who lives close to you and would be willing to help you with sorting out th things you want to know about your carsvan. Below is the contact should you wish to use it.
