Truma combi

So- 2 Baileys with a Truma combi in each and both needed to be repaired within a few weeks use. In fact our current one has been used for one week only before the Truma decided, " I've had enough!" All resets attempted  but it's going back to the dealer next week.  Don't think it's unreasonable to expect better from something that costs that much.

I reckon that caravans are going, or have already gone, the way of cars and including tech that we really don't need.  The more electronics, the more to go wrong.

I challenge a brave van company to bring out an analogue model- I'll be first in line!

I had to have a replacement PCB, under warranty, on my Truma in my current Bailey motorhome in the first year of ownership. Had the same heater, except for the illustrated display panel, in my previous Bailey motorhome which was perfectly fine. I would struggle to understand why it would be a Bailey specific problem? The old convector style Truma heaters with blown air seemed to be pretty reliable. Having said that it is always annoying when things go wrong and you have to go back to the dealer which hopefully is not far from you?

Agreed.  Its not Bailey or other brands that use Truma- it's Truma.  From looking at forums including, the club, it's obvious that the combis they provide have issues which are known to them. The main ones seem to be circuit board faults and the combustion units which regularly get flagged by folk as letting them down. (Its interesting that the fault code E638 ,which we have, isn't listed on their website.) One was told, apparently, by customer services that the company is aware of the issues but they seem to continue their supply of these heating systems and appear to just hope for the best!

Our van is now warmed by an Amazon camping blow heater (£25). No hot water but that's camping I say!

Our Knaus has the Combi 6 fitted.  It's now coming up to 5 years old and although the system is good when it's working, we have had a few problems with it - including two new sets of heating elements.  Not an easy fix because it means the boiler coming out and being stripped down on the bench. I think the first replacement set failed because they hadn't been installed properly and, interestingly, Truma now only sell elements with the heating fins attached (as a 'kit'' - at even more cost) since premature failure will occur if the original fins aren't attached properly. On the other hand, the van has had a lot of use since we are normally away, every month, all year round but still not what I would expect.

The Chief Tech at our dealers told me over a year ago that the Combi 6 was being discontinued and a replacement was under development. I am now beginning to doubt that since nothing seems to have happened in the meantime.

Since we bought a stock van, there wasn't the option to upgrade to the Alde system, but if buying again, I would certainly go down that route.

The heating elements failed on our Combi 6 after four years. I wouldn’t say they had seen unusual use, two of our tours had been in France where they had only been required for water heating. As richardandros mentions they now only supply a complete very expensive kit. That plus the position of ours making it very difficult to remove the boiler meant labour costs were significant. Hopefully these elements last more than four years 🤞They’ve certainly not been overworked on our current French trip, the weather has been such that we have only used the heating once at altitude in the Jura.

We bought our swift back in 2015 and on our first trip out the heater failed so back to the dealer and a new circuit board was fitted but it would still would not work so back to the dealer who stated there was nothing wrong with as they had tested it with their gadget ( which we were told later they had no such gadget ) so we contacted Truma  and had a trip up to Derby were the heater was fitted with a new combustion fan and it was fine, they just plugged it into a gadget and just like on a car it listed the faults

We have had for over a year now a firing up problem with our CD 600 combi truma diesel boiler. We are in the midlands. Besides Truma itself in Derby , where we have been twice to try and get it repaired , even though new last year, it still doesn't work after bit of tinkering by them.  Does anyone please know of a specialist in the UK . I ll drive anywhere to get it fixed!

thank you , Tim
