ULEZ type zones in Europe - What needed?

At tthe 'exorbitant cost of around 4 Euros for the life of the vehicle which is valid for every current (and probablu future) French Low emission zones I wouldn't worry.

Just get one and forget about it.

Yes that makes sense given that mostly I will ferry to France. And it might help to keep les flics happy given digital registration even in non-ULEZ areas regarding any discretionary stop for other reasons.

Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Italy are largely unknown to me regarding ULEZ. I never even considered it when traveling by bike. My broad understanding is that, like the UK, there are specific large conurbations where such rules apply and rules vary from one conurbation to another just as in the UK. So 99% of the land mass of each country is therefor ULEZ free.

I particularly want to avoid annual renewal of vignettes. I am already going to have to shell out for the Swiss motorway vignette. (They used to be plentiful lightly used  on Ebay but the Swiss government has cracked down. At least you can now buy an E-vignette online). I do not want annual charges all over Europe having to be paid "just in case".

As GTrimmer says considering the minimum cost of the main stickers for France and Germany cost so little it would seem a false economy not to get them in advance. You only tend to get involved with annual renewals if you invest in a motorway tag and even there they yearly costs are quite small.

Thanks. Yes I think I will do that.

I did not say in my initial post that my son and family live in Switzerland. I have asked him to acquaint me with the position there. He lives mid way between Zurich and Zug so there is some risk of ending up in Zurich in an emergency. So I might end up with three registrations.

I have not yet explored the position in Italy at all. There is some prospect that I might leave my MH with my son and fly home returning say one month later to foray further south in Italy maybe next year and  I have experience of Italian bureaucracy  when biking in Italy during Covid!!!

P.S. My prospective insurers  Caravan Guard cannot insure while my MH is left in the care of my son and family in Switzerland but, given their generous breakdown cover of up to 9 months in Europe, that gives me flexibility. They cannot assess the risk in Switzerland. I can. My son lives on the edge of a village with two farmers as his Immediate neighbours and my MH would be parked in his garden. The risk is very low (and maybe he can insure that risk for me given that he works for Zurich Insurance  albeit in a worldwide role!). I would, of course, advise Caravan Guard of any such stay to keep my nose clean with them!

Before I start Googling in my best italian anybody have experience of ULEZ provisions in Italy?

ULEZ zones in Italy only apply to Bologna, Milan and Palermo so if you stay clear of them you’ll be OK. To enter those cities you need to buy a permit online. They don’t have stickers. However, a number of other cities have zones that only residents and delivery vehicles may enter. These are marked ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato) and you should watch out for these.

As my destination this September will include Colico there is a small risk that a breakdown or whatever could end up with repairs in Milan. So I had better do some reading and log urls in my notebook PC.
