Van suggestions

Hi All

We’ve sold the caravan and are searching for a MH, without much success.

We’re searching for a sub 7m length (the shorter the better) with a rear washroom and garage and a payload of 500kg or more, plus the ability to actually meet axle limits. Payloads seem generally very low. Whilst sub 3500kg would be a preferred bonus, we’re flexible on MTPLM. Suggestions please ?

Have a look at the Roller team T-Line 590, it has a rear wash room and a rear side garage.

The 590 in T line and Pegaso are what we’re looking for, but the payload is 328 unfortunately. There is an option to upgrade to 3650 giving a 478 payload. We’re considering this as we like the van, but have seen others such as Chausson 640 which is our preferred layout but the payload is 361.

On the other hand...

A good friend has drawn my attention to this offering from Frankia which does seem to fit the bill.  The 'design trick' is that the washroom is actually ahead of the garage but the space where a (say) transverse bed would be placed is used for a very large wardrobe, meaning the washroom becomes a huge dressing room.

Very nice…. A touch out of our price range and a tad over 3500 😂😂👍

In this Autotrader list, look for P626D or P696D (p is for pacific and means normal Ducato coachbuilt cab in Pilote speak). They are two versions of the layout you seek. The 696 is longer.

then there is the A class version G690D (g is for galaxy and means A class cab in Pilote speak).

Hi young thomas

The P696D is exactly what we’re after, to a T…..except the price as we’re looking at up-to £70k. This appears to be a new model line so nothing second hand about yet. Do you know if there was a similar model before this one ?

If you have the budget go for the Pegaso 590, so much more space. We were looking at the T-Line 740 until we stepped into a Pegaso 740. We have had ours for four years now and still very happy with it.

This was the 'pioneer' of the drop down bed at the front with garage and washroom at the rear...

this one is used...may be able to haggle something to your budget👍

Quite a number of outfitters of LWB vans (5.34m) - Ford Transit Custom; VW Transporter, are fitting a Thetford toilet at the rear and a shower capability but they are "out-in-the-open" and not in a washroom and so it depends on how much you need these versus being on sites with theses facilities. These vans are usually at 3000kg with about 250kg payload.

As an option instead of a garage I have gone for a Thule rear carrier (towball mounted) that takes 2 or 3 bikes, or a cargo box and one bike (80kg max, carrier + box + bikes + box). I take of the whole carrier off on arrival and leave it on site for when out on day trips.

As an example of such vans, see:

Racks and boxes on the back are fine but you will get charged when using a ferry. We much prefer to have all our kit inside the van.

a rear bike/motorcycle garage was a number one requirement when we moved to a German MH.

To ONEPJG, we run our 6.4M Compactline i138 easily at 3.5t complete with full water, gas, e-bikes, outdoor kit, BBQ etc. etc.

I know it's not quite the same layout but we are 6.4M with bikes (inside) and a 696D will be at least 7.75m with an additional rack for bikes and/or box. Plenty of used examples at sensible (for modern times) prices.

that's a pretty big difference which will affect a few things, parking, rear axle weight, ferry cost, kit stored in 'weather', etc.
