condensation in full awning

We bought a new Dorema awning at the begining of this summer, at the first outing with our June rain it leaked around the stitching, we assumed this was normal but when we used it the second time one end of the awning leaked when it rained making chairs etc. wet. if the roof was touched during this time the water sprayed through into the awning.

We rang Dorema for advice on waterproofing and were told this was only condensation even though we explained how much water had come in. Has anyone  else had this problem, we have had different awnings for years and never had this happen,  if you have does it stop, or should we go ahead and waterproof the roof.
