How Safely Stored is Your Caravan?

We store our caravan at home.  We started off many years ago by driving it up the drive and then parking it next to our garage. This we did for many years, until one weekend we went away on a rally and someone said “I knew you would be here this weekend I saw your van had gone”. This got MOH thinking and before long we had a garage built big enough to house our car and caravan side by side.

Problem solved you may think, well yes it was but has created other problems over the years.

At the time of having our garage built caravans were 8ft/8ft1 high and 7ft2 wide. So we had a garage door made to open 8ft6 high, Yes, you are ahead of me, not many caravans are that small these days.  We now own a Swift Conqueror 8ft 7 so how do we get that in the garage. We raise the front end, then motor move it half way in, then we lower the front and motor move the rest in.

Also I haven’t begun to tell you about getting this 8ft7 high 7ft6 wide van up and down our drive. Not an easy task with about 1nch clearance on the eves and about 4inch clearance each side. Thank goodness for motor movers. MOH makes it look easy but I can assure you that it isn’t.  But as we say to our insurance company our van is very safely stored.

How about your caravan/motorcaravan what lenghts do you go to, to keep your pride and joy safe?
