Should storage owners notify you of a break-in?

Our caravan is stored at a small CASSOA silver site and we went yesterday to collect something and to check everything was ok.  There was another owner there and he told us that his van had been stolen at the end of August.  Having not seen him before, I asked "where from" and he replied "here, along with 2 others'"!  Well, this was news to us!  We do know the site was broken into last year, but only because we were going to pick our van up and they were repairing the gates.  Should the owners of storage sites notify you if there's a break in?
