I am currently storing my caravan in a UK secure storage facility but am looking at storing my caravan for a couple of months in France at a CMC site whilst using it for holidays, but my current insurance company will not insure me if it is not with my vehicle when not in use.

Has anyone used an insurance company that will provide insurance for France and the UK as I will be bringing the caravan back to the UK and returning it to its usual storage site after 4 months use in France.

It will not be used whilst being stored in France until I go back out for holidays, but will be in secure storage with other caravans and brought out when I go back for my holidays and returned into storage when I leave again.

The insurance will be for a year as normal but stored in two locations during part of the year.

Thanks in advance

I cannot see the problem. If in secure storage when not being used it should be insured by the storage providers.

When you pick it up to use abroad your UK 30 days/ 90 days abroad insurance provision should take over.

Several British people who store caravans in France have said that Towergate insurance is one of the  few UK companies which will provide insurance for that situation. However they will ask questions about the security at the site where you intend to leave your van. Talk to them after the holiday .

I have an allied problem. My son lives in Switzerland in a small rural community. I might choose to leave the van there for a few weeks.

Caravan Guard cannot cover that risk for the simple reason that they cannot assess it. I have agreed with them that as and when I do leave the van (more likely next year than this) I will notify them to keep my nose clean.

His home is between two farm houses with ever alert farm dogs and my daughter-in-law mainly works at home. So, if I do leave it there, I will fit a tracker and take the small risk. But then I have an older van. No way would I do that if I had £100k tied up in the van!!

I might ask my son to enquire about cover in Switzerland. He works for the Zurich Insurance company!! But handy to know about Towergate. Thank you!
