Anyone any experience with this engine or car with this engine?

We've just looked (Bored Saturday afternoon) and been very tempted with a 2011 Skoda Octavia Estate. Now normally most would consider the 2.0 Diesel. I admit, i would to, but looking at the figures for the 1.6 Diesel. Well it looks good on paper! £30 a year tax, 105 hp, 250nm torque at 1500rpm. Essentially the 1.6 has replaced the old 1.9 unit for power with better economy.

Now that's less power than my current (2.4 Petrol) Volvo S80 which is 138 bhp but more than the 220n/m at 4000 rpm torque. Also torque is in a better place being lower down on the Skoda!

Nose weights are both the same at 75kg's

My 'van is a Bailey Ranger 470/4 MTPLM of 1100kg's. The club match says ok. The Volvo is 74%, the Skoda bang on 85%.

My only issue there is if we want a bigger 'van later. But we're both very fond of our 'van at the moment with no plans to change!

We would also go from a tax of £220 a year on the Volvo to £30 a year on the Skoda. Plus we would go from two cars to one saving ANOTHER £140 a year on the Civic tax, Plus insurance bill would be £150+ a year less. Also save us £160 in MOT's (fee only) over the next two years.

I would also hope towing MPG would be better than my current 23 ish mpg

Anyway i'm going off subject, so. 1.6 TDI engine, tow, or no tow? :D

Many Thanks
