Towing 8ft wide caravans

Hi all, it seems that Caravan manufacturers are making 8ft wide caravans as the norm now. But I was wondering if anybody has towed with one, how do you find it? Motorways and A roads I would think be OK until you get to the last bit of your journey where road are a bit tight?

We have had a 8' caravan since 2016 no issues with sites.

Ah, I knew your van was a biggy but didn't know it was 8'.

Obviously, as with towing any caravan, sense is needed as some of our roads just aren't suitable. It's all very well ED talking about larger vehicles using them but there's a world of difference between our flimsy sided LVs and a farm tractor and trailer.

It is what you what used to , the newer Buses Optair?bodies that do the route from Hillhead to Brixham are not for faint hearted with some of the drivers

For goodness sake it is only 3" on either side and not 3'. If you cannot handle and extra 3" either side then maybe you should question your driving abilities? Never had an issue in the UK, France or Spain with the extra width.

As I've said before it is not simply 3" on either side. If you are squeezing through a gap, say in a town centre, passing parked cars as close as you wish to be, all that extra width is on the offside which may be the difference between getting past the the other badly parked vehicle and not doing. You may be lucky most of the time but not always.

If that is the case then a fire engine will not get passed either. Travelled through many towns with narrow streets and never had an issue. I think that the green eye monster is at play here. LOL!
