WHICH 4X4?

We are thinking of going 4x4 for the coming season with the following criteria: budget of around £6/7k, must be diesel, 5 door, prefer manual, needs to tow upto 1350KG  max, a good 'drivers' car ( I like enthusiastic driving when solo). My thoughts are along the lines of a 4x4 Octavia estate, Passat 4motion, Altea XL Freetrack, CR-V, RAV 4, X-Trail and so on. I have had over 55 cars in 35 years so know my way around but 4x4 is new territory to me. Any feedback or other ideas would be welcome! The current tow-car is a SEAT Toledo (the version that looks like an Altea that has been hit with an ugly stick at the back) 2.0TDi with DSG.
