hi fellow members, am I the only one to find booking a site now to expensive. after 45 years of caravav/motorhome camping with the club I am now relegated to booking January  or November as this is just affordable at 73 years old on a pension.trying to book for 2019 is a nightmare as i cant afford many days in july. pensioners need help, I don't want to pack it in yet but its close. love sandringham site as I try to get as many times as I can but each year it gets less. maybe ill win the lottery, happy camping.

But then ,after being motor caravan users ourselves we tend to notice how many are ""static" when on site ,and wonder what made them change,or was it as happens"they are the latest must haves "surprised we have been here two day so far and the seven near us have not moved a 3 are set up with awnings  wink

Ps there is a 40 van rally all on EHU here this weekend and some have already arrived,  several of which are motor caravans ,when it has officially commenced,  i may just ask the RO if they get many on MCs on rallies ,when on grass

I do wish you’d stop banging on about motorhome and public transport a bit JVB. Not everyone with a MH needs public transport, some of us, quite a few in my experience, actually use our MHs to get out and about in on a daily basis, no need for bus passes, bikes or having to stay on a site in a town! wink

Back to the OP. Yes it is perfectly possible to stay on some decent Club Sites, and not have to pay a lot of money, you just have to avoid the Sites where prices have been seriously ramped up for one reason or another. There are also some brilliant CLs offering hook up, loos and sometimes showers as well for under £20 per night. And then there are lots of very nice small private sites, again at very reasonable prices. Last August we did a three week tour of Northumberland and Borders, and I think we averaged around £12.50 per night. Similar with Devon and Cornwall last year in October. Leave out a disastrous decision on my part to use Hurn Lane for a night and we averaged £13.50 per night, and that included one CL with an indoor pool and spa! smile

I don't think anybody is trying to prove anything  ......  just observations.

I used many CC sites last year between £18 and £22

Club sites are like 5 star hotels with prices to match - hard standings, pristine lawns, heated blocks, purpose designed water and waste points etc. Far removed from when I first started camping but a small band of people like it that way and are happy to pay. “It’s camping Captain, but not as we know it”.

Plenty of other options offering more basic facilities at lower prices as has been mentioned.

It’s perfectly possible to holiday anywhere in this country with a caravan or MH for under £20 per night. We do it, Nellie does it, lots of others do it, in both caravans and MHs. But not if you stick rigidly to Club Sites at peak times of the year. That’s where choice comes in. You either stick with the Club, or look elsewhere. smile

Not sure what you want on a site David but what can you find in the UK that provides what you want at a significant saving? Any clues! wink

Last week I booked 6 nights at C&CC Sandringham in September , it was £40 cheaper than C&MC Sandringham site. I've never been to either site , and I appreciate the facilities might be of a lesser standard, but it's still quite a difference. I know it's an old topic, but I'm wondering if the deposit scheme the C&CC use has an effect on lower prices?

I still regard them as basic sites, agree well maintained and presented but anything less than a somewhere to park and a shower block wouldn't qualify as a camp site in my eyes and certainly not 5* IMO

I thought that you only used club sites for a few nights a year and then near ferries, so was wondering how/what you are basing that statement on? Have you been to any of the more expensive club sites recently Dave?
