Charging a PHEV on a CL site

Hi all

After some time away from caravanning I am returning next year, new van ordered and sites booked.

I have a PHEV and was wondering do the owners of CL allow you to charge via the output on the caravan. This is the way I see it. I can reduce the charge rate to 10 amp, therefore the car would be able to charge overnight from a 16 amp post, if I am not using the heating or an electric kettle etc. The car has a 13KWH battery however it will only ever discharge to a level that a full charge is 10KWH.

So whilst in theory I think it is possible, in practice can it be done. I would of course ask the CL owner first and I would pay for the electricity that my car has used, as I appreciate they set the fee's without taking this into account.

Anyone any experience.

It’s entirely up to the CL owner what he/she permits you to do and what fees are raised. They are independent business so what one allows, another may not.

It's always best to ask about these things at the time of booking and I’m sure CL owners will appreciate being asked rather than it being assumed that car charging is OK.

There are now more and more CL owners that are adding notes to their CL pages to the effect that they do not allow charging electric vehicles on their sites.

I suggest you check out the towcar section. I’m sure it’s been discussed.

Our is the later 2020 2.4 model, towing our 1500kg Swift Conqueror 480, if we set the speed limiter to 55 mph around 32 mpg, set to 60 drops to 28/29mpg, as regard steep hills the rear electric motor kicks in. The trick is press the charge mode button when towing.
