Exclusive use of facilities

The increasing cost of club sites, £45/night for a serviced pitch at Cayton Easter 2022, is prompting me to look at CL's or pack up at the age of 81.

My limited experience of CL's has shown they vary from outstanding to rubbish even with the same description.  Many have the words exclusive use/ non exclusive use after the WC or showers.

Could some more experienced CLers give guidance.

On CLs we've stayed on which provide washroom facilities this normally means site users only just occasionally there may be an adjoining site where the provision only refers to the CL. We use our own facilities so it's not important to us and site facilities can vary greatly. Looking at photos helps if they are available and a careful checking of the details and reviews.

Exclusive use we have expected and, found the facilities to be for use of CL users - max 5 Van's.

Non exclusive use we have found is shared with other folk who are permitted to use the facility by the CL owner. One we used where this was the case it was shared by those who kept their horses at the livery. It had both toilet and completely separate shower room both in farm buildings and kept very clean.

We use our facilities but are happy to use site facilities if they meet our requirements.

The best bit about CL's is generally their setting and limited other Van's ๐Ÿ˜‰

Non exclusive can also sometimes referred to a CL which has a small commercial site adjacent or a camping field in another area. In our experience these facilities are usually adequate in provision to allow for the greater useage.

Towards the end of our caravanning days we used CLs almost exclusively and there are some cracking examples out there in all areas of the country.

If you are looking for a CL in a particular area and find reviews conflicting you can always start a thread on here asking for advice - there's an awful lot of CL experience out there from past as well as present members! smile

Folks have pretty much covered it above. If you are relatively new to CLs, then best advice I can give is do your homework before committing, so that you are sure what you are getting, and that it suits your needs.

Check out via handbook and map, website on here, the CL may have its own website with more photos and a better description. You can use Google maps on your PC to actually get a reasonable satellite view of what to expect. But phoning and talking direct to an owner is priceless if you have particular questions you need answering. There are few bad CL, but some visitors do make poor choices of where to stay. Some are much nicer than full facility Club Sites, it all depends on what you want/need๐Ÿ˜

Adding to what Moulesy has already said some CL's are part of Garden Nurseries or even Boatyards so exclusive use I would take to mean for use by CL users only or shared use with other customers.

If you want to check out more reviews it might be worth looking at the UKCampsites  website.

There are some CLs which are based on a public house and those "sharing" the facilities are the bar customers. Often the facilities are only available during the opening hours of the licenced premises. So might as well use one's onboard facilities or go somewhere else.

Totally off topic, but: why no info about the OP?  No name, nothing.  He/she has "limited experience of CLs", surely that means he/she has to be a member, or am I wrong?

Clicking on the OP's "image" brings me to my own profile!! How is that even possible??  I'd be very interested in an explanation.

Probably another glitch in the system, Ina. I'll report it.

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure that when I replied earlier on the OP did have a name at least, can't remember if it showed as a member. undecided

I think so, too.

It's as if the OP had been Deleted User from CT. That usually causes your own profile to appear.
