If you are a user of Archies Campings on your Satnav then you will be sorry to read this message from Archie:

FOR ALL USERS OF THIS WEBSITE I HAVE BAD NEWS!

After spending almost all of my free time on the website for over 16 years, the time has come to focus on all those other things that are important to me as well.

I really enjoyed it all that time, also thanks to all the positive feedback I've received. I will definitely miss all those heartwarming e-mails.

Of course I couldn't keep the website up to date without the help of a lot of people.

I would like to thank some of them especially:

- First of all, of course, the “translators” who ensured that my campsite data could reach almost all Europeans: Val, Per, Manu. Jose, Ralph and Danny. Thanks for all these years!!

- Also Jahdroid and Sagittario who have made it possible for my data to reach an even wider range with their apps, thanks!

- Of course also the campers who regularly reported their findings about new or closed campsites, wrong positions, etc. Thank you very much for your help so that I could give everyone the right info! It is of course impossible to name everyone here, but I will make an exception for a few: …………………... They were my main suppliers of information, thank you!

- Last but not least, everyone who made it possible to keep my hobby somewhat affordable by making a donation, thank you very much too!

The website with the latest information will be permanently blacked out in mid-September. So provide your navigation device with the latest data before then! A lot has changed again!

FINALLY, A LITTLE GOOD NEWS!

JAHDROID'S ARCHIESCAMPING APPS FOR ANDROID AND APPLE STAY AND WILL ALSO BE KEEP UP TO DATE!

FOR THE SMARTPHONE AND/OR TABLET OWNERS WHO DO NOT USE THE APP YET, IT MAY BE TIME TO MAKE THE TRANSFER

The website still appears to be live, so take this opportunity to download the last ever update before it disappears completely.

Hi Val

Thanks for posting. Many of us have been very grateful for Archies POI's over the years and I don't recall them ever letting me down right across Europe. I think undertakings like his website can become all consuming and I perfectly understand why he may wish to concentrate on other things. In some ways the original satellite navigation systems has been superseded by Apps and other ways of identifying locations.

If you get the chance please pass on my thanks to Archie.

David

That's a shame but understandable must have been a big undertaking to keep up-to-date. Only started using it 12 months ago and found it really useful. At least the App is continuing. Please pass on my thanks to Archie.

It was time-consuming!  The link is still live to the website, so I suggest anyone who wants to say 'Thanks' to 'Archie' does it through the website, but I shall pass on details anyway!

Hi Val, As said the time that it takes must be immense.

I was just marveling at how I log into my banking-if I try to log in I get a message that I must scan the QR code, which pops up, and instantaneously I am in..........but this is a bank with massive resources to fund the software peeps to make this work and as time is money it must have been a struggle, only made possible by Archie and his helpers, to keep going.

So thanks to those that did help!
