Car Ferry in Croatia

We are going to Croatia next year, and traveling down to Dubrodvic, with our caravan, there is a border that is Bosnia, and it's hard to get car insurance for this stretch,17 miles long.

The other option is a car ferry going from Ploce to Trpanj, but no one seems to know about it,it seems to take cars, lorries and motor homes.Has anyone been on this ferry.

Can't help directly , but look - people put photos of that ferry on You tube. It's a perfectly usable ship and the on-line price list will give you costs for car and caravan.

Thanks for your replies, yes have looked at the price list, says length of trailer, also weight, have sent an email to the operators, sent me some info, but still hard to understand, don't know wether to just turn up,for it looks a big ferry,my overall length is 13 mts,may have to wait until they have room for me,don't fancy running thru Bosnia with no insurance, but everyone I have spoke to on another forum, say they do it.

I’m not suggesting you break the law or insurance rules, but we towed down there this year and went straight through. It was a very easy, one roundabout, one set of traffic lights and and about 7 miles in total, road trip. We took the chance!

Have fun!

The Caravan Club insurance will cover you.

We are insured through The Camping and Caravanning Club. About 3 years ago it cost us just over £30 for the basic cover to travel through Bosnia in our camper van. The insurance was for a month but we only travelled through the 10km or so on the way to Dubrovnik and back a few days later. The cost was about the same as a one way journey on the ferry.

I agree with Olivegrower about the ease of travelling this section of Bosnia but I cannot understand why anyone takes "the chance" of travelling without basic insurance. OK they got away with it but can you imagine the complications of an accident in an uninsured vehicle and the potential costs involved? The thought of uninsured drivers in any country horrifies me including the possibility that they could cripple someone for life without any recompense to the injured person.

Although many UK motorinsurance policies will not include cover to pass through Bosnia,  earlier forum posts have suggested that the AA and NFU are ones which may be able to arrange that insurance cover.

Dunno about the AA but the NFU won't even give comprehensive insurance for Croatia let alone Bosnia. They do provide 3rd party for Croatia so may also issue this for Bosnia. I've never asked them.
