Changes to Austrian Toll Charges

Austria has added a new one day vignette to its existing tariffs costing 8.60 euros for vehicles under 3.5 tons. This was introduced in December 2023 and for suitable vehicles it will make it cheaper to cross Austria.  Further information >here<

There will also be changes for vehicles over 3.5 tons, but, from a quick appraisal, these are unlikely to have an immediate impact especially on older vehicles. See >here<

Took a longer look at these changes for vans registered before 2019 and over 3.5 tons. It will mean a 4 cents per mile increase in the toll to 0.46 euros per mile.

Great post peedee.... thanks

Further information was helpful as we're travelling via the S16 in June en rte to Innsbruck, so at least are 'prepared'......

Arlberg Road Pass will be much more interesting than a tunnel for sure smile

Arlberg Tunnel Closure 2024

https://www.asfinag.at/en/construction-maintenance/construction-projects/s-16-rehabilitation-and-closure-of-arlberg-tunnel/

So given the above, I'm assuming as I'll be on diversion I won't be required to purchase the additional section toll in addition to my vignette?

Any opinions on this please?

I am also travelling from Natters to Golling an der Salzach via Zell am See, do I require the section toll for the A13 in order to travel to/from Natters via the A12 as it is not particularly clear from the diagram on the ASFINAG map.....

Thanks in advance.

If you are in Austria for more than a day and are 3.5 tons or less then buy either the 10 day or 2 month vignette, that should cover all road tolls. The web site does give exceptions where addtional charges apply;

Increased rates apply to the section toll segments A 9 Gleinalm and/or Bosruck Tunnel (Pyhrn motorway), A 10 Tauern and Katschberg Tunnel (Tauern motorway), A 11 Karawanken Tunnel (Karawanken motorway), A 13 Brenner Pass (Brenner motorway) and S 16 Arlberg Tunnel (Arlberg expressway).

With the exception of the Brenner Pass these appear to be mainly tunnels

Hi Peedee,

Yes, I always opt for the general vignette but I was trying to establish if I required the additional 'toll' passes as I will be travelling along the S16.... on further research, given that the Arlberg Tunnel section will be closed I don't think this is req'd as it only applies to the tunnel section & annual passes are to be extended due to the closure....

I'll only be merging onto A13 before exiting, have just followed that on street view & a toll would only be required if I went beyond J3 Innsbruck-Sud...

Answered my own question really wink

We travelled along the S16 in September 2023, we had to go over the pass with car+caravan as the tunnel was closed so no additional toll needed just the normal vignette which is needed for all motorways.

Has anyone purchased the new 'E' vignette online? how was the procedure. Looking for the 2 month one.

Posted on 04/03/2024 08:52

E. Vignettes are not new - they have been available since 2018  so the application  procedure is well established. But beware that a two months E vignette is not valid until 18 days after purchase so if you go down that road you need to buy one well ahead.

Yeah I should have written 'new to me' as the last time we went into Austria in 2019 I bought the paper one before the border. Covid got in the way and I'm arranging the E vignettes for both Austria and Slovenia. I did notice the 18 day ruling thanks, also the limit in advance before ordering on the Slovenian one.

I was hoping to purchase the E vignettes online and in the UK before setting off, unfortunately I have had an Email back from 'ASFiNAG' saying as we are not part of the EEA, I have to purchase at the Toll shops so the online shop is a no.
