Just been looking at popping over to France now that a no-deal Brexit has been kicked further down the calendar and the Dog's passport looks safe  ...

Can't believe the prices offered by Brittany Ferries (via the Club website) for ... Plymouth to Roscoff in May.

Variable depending on day / crossing but several options at under £300 RETURN with a Caravan.

Obviously plenty of space available due to the extra crossings bought and paid for by the HMG Contingency Fund post 29th March.

Happy tp take up some space at those prices .. cheers !

I don’t know how the MH price compares with other routes but the car/van price is very good.

Just done a quick comparison on the Hull - Zeebrugge route going out midweek May return midweek June.

Direct with P&O  a car + 6.5m caravan £687.25 ......... 6.5m MH £415

C&MC  Car + 6.5m caravan £602.62 .............. 6.5m MH £409

on this route a caravan is best to go on Sat/Sun as they can usually get an ITX fare if buying 4 vouchers.

There is no doubt that a lot of research has to be done if trying to get the 'best' fare.

Thelse  were the motorhomes who ended up outside on the Cape Finistere, the crew hosed them down in the morning.

Back to "caravans go free", I have been able to use those crossings twice a year most years since 1999 and it's only recently we started paying for the van when we changed to using the Bilbao crossing outbound.  However whatever we decide to pay it's worth it for blue skiessmile

The price I quoted above was for a non ITX crossing.

If you take just a normal crossing then MH's do fair better. However when there is an ITX offer then caravans do better by far.

What I was trying to show was that the caravan is HEAVILY discounted when an ITX fare is offered compared to a MH.

Someone asked up thread (can't remember who) how do MH's fair compared to caravans when booking direct or when no ITX is on offer.

that's life and so what? You are saying they should? Why? There are offers on for Volvo cars atm so the same should be offered for Ford... whatever?

Posted on 20/04/2019 18:22

When you talk about and offer to members then yes I would expect the offer to be equal.

We are ALL members at the end of the day irrespective what LV you choose to have.

Didn't know Volvo had an offer on but we got a great deal on our Fordwink

"When you talk about and offer to members then yes I would expect the offer to be equal."

So would I, TG, if the offer was being made by the club but when they are passing on a third party's discount it’s a little different.

I suppose, to be totally fair, the club could refuse to act as agents for the ferry companies and not offer its membership anything at all.  wink

I dare say they could.

When we lived in Germany I worked for a travel agent for the Armed Forces, the ferries offered discounts to the forces through the agent.

The offers were available to all at the same rate, didn't matter if you were Army or RAF, didn't matter if you were a Cpl or WOI or even a General the discount was the same.

I suppose the club could offer a % as a discount, available to all irrespective of what LV you own. wink

Have we yet established that the offer is from the Ferry company undecided

Who else is going to discount the fares other than the seller of those ferry places? The club won't foot the bill for the discount in the same way as your Armed Forces travel agent didn’t.
