Disaster at de massereau

Hello Fellow outdoor holiday makers .

I have had a nightmare this year, you may be aware that marvilla parks took over domaine de masereau down in the Gard south of france.

Basically prebooked for this year last august - site sold - new owners ( as is the trend it seems) decided to plonk mobile homes on every pitch they can fit one onto and the  sadly not tell the  hundreds  of loyal holidaymakers until 4 weeks ago that their pitch was gone and that the offer was completely unsuitable pitches ( anything too bad to put a mobile home on it seems).

Anyhow after hundreds of emails and dozens of unhelpful calls at great cost - no most of us have lost out and have no holiday or have been forced to change virtually every part of our summer tour all because the marvilla park group are poor at communication and frankly do not appear to care.

Anyhow - my question.

I am looking for a high quality alternative in the same area , I like quiet, I like no sunbathing towels, large pitches , shade, history and all services along with quality showers and facilities .

Can anyone suggest an alternative to this site which had two huge draws for me, large pitches with shade and a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere close to a village I like to buy antique tat as my wife puts it .

Ideally not too far away from sommiers or montpellier.

Thanks if you can help .

Mike

I will have a look , all I need are a few suggestions from people who like quiet and large pitches away from busy sea front locations . i find people often have a list of favourites and to be honest I don't always trust the brochures . I will look at the one you mentioned,. Thank you for the reply .

Mike, Please let us know how you get on. I hope you find somewhere you will like. It’s just that I find it hard to advise friends whose prime requirement is a certain campsite - and even a certain pitch on that campsite.

We ourselves operated in a different way for 40 years  - simply identified the things and places we wanted to see and do - the strange cathedral at Albi, the stupendous cable cars at Chamonix, tne Musee d’Orsay in Paris, the ideal palace which a postman built at Hautrives, a flutter on the casino at Monte Carlo, two or three famous gardens, and so on  - and we just went to any convenient campsite nearby.

But we are all different - and as Flatcoat says , it’s not a disaster, is it.

I will post again! It is inconvenient and annoying but a disaster it most certainly is not! Put it in perspective, being bombed out of your home in Ukraine is more than a disaster, losing your home to the volcano in Iceland is catastrophic, having a terminal illness is devasting but losing your holiday booking is none of those. I hope you find an alternative that works for, you may find it even better than the site you lost!
