France - Next Year

To save hijacking someone else’s thread, I thought I’d start one. We’re thinking of going over to France, next June. My thoughts were to take it at an easy pace, as I’ve allowed around a month. Initially, I thought about two overnight stops in this country (CL’s) before embarking from Dover. I’d book an overnight somewhere near Calais before heading south. It would of course be easier (in terms of time and distance) to go from one of the southern ports, but from what I can tell, be very expensive (?). (Thanks for your input BB&DD regarding this)

I’m not necessarily looking at traveling that far south in France, just want to ‘play it by ear’, but of course, recommendations will be taken into account. I really like the idea of not booking sites in advance. We took the van over once before quite a few years ago, booking everything in advance,  but I don’t want the stress/planning of it all and being tied in.

Cheers...Freddy.

Thank you, that looks perfect. As an aside, are there places of interest locally? I could probably fit in a 2 night stay, if worthwhile.

Sadly very little of interest !

If you would like to visit Loches - which certainly is an interesting historic town -  then a two night stay at Camping la Citadelle at Loches itself will place you within walking distance of the town rather than being in a rural field 25 km.away.

Thanks for that. I took a look at the site, looks nice. Only thing is I thought it a bit pricey, given the time of year. Certainly not prohibitive, but I need to keep a check on spending given that we’re away for a month. Anyway, the countryside is fine with us ๐Ÿ™‚

We did look at the site Eurotaveller mentioned again a bit of a surprise re prices and we used to do a short storage at Obterre hence it was suitable for us as we also prefer country to towns but each to their own that is enjoyable with our hobby all sites to suit different tastes.

Enjoy your stay here Freddy wherever you find to stopover.

Freddy, we stayed at La Domaine de Soleil Plage a couple of years ago on a Carthago rally....the site was first class, loads of facilities, incl river access, but unfortunately the weather wasnt terrific and we left early for some Spanish sunshine...

the cycling is nice, quiet country roads and plenty to see in your car.

enjoy.

Hiya BB. Just been looking at their website. I’m considering going for a riverside pitch. There is of course a premium for this. Apart from the premium, is there a good reason to steer clear? Insect life perhaps?

Thanks for that. As it stands, I’ll be booking the Obterre site for two nights, so thanks again for the suggestion ๐Ÿ‘

La Citadelle is a site we have used twice for stopovers. As Euror says nice town and in June its €18 a night with ACSI card.

we didnt have a riverside pitch, we were amongst the allocated pitches for our rally...however, they looked nice but couldnt comment on insect life or the like as we didnt spend that much time on that particular river bank...

Hi all. Iโ€™m looking at the ACSI thingy. Before I order, Iโ€™d like to know if the scheme includes โ€˜popularโ€™ sites, or are they mostly low-key/out of the way affairs?

No not at all Freddy, in fact a lot of the more modest sites find it an expensive option to get themselves included. Have at the camping card website (not the main ACSI site) and check it out for yourself

Thanks David. I had a look at the Camping Card website, but it doesn’t seem to be working correctly, only lists/shows two sites in the region I was looking at. Anyway, I’m reassured by your comments ๐Ÿ‘
