We're off to France via Calais in June for our first Euro trip in the van.

We plan to drive down to the Jura region, then to the Auvergne. Has anyone got any recommendation or advice for a route? We have 3 weeks.

thanks

Despite all the modern electronic devices available to help plan your route I would suggest you invest in the Michelin Road Atlas of France. It will help you visualise the bits that might warrant a bit more exploring and those bits you might want to sail through on the autoroute.

I like the sound of what you have in mind.

If it were me I would hit the motorways to get there and get back quickly. Perhaps a two night stop in Troyes going south, and a three night stop in Paris on the way back, but with your three week limitation spend the maximum time exploring the two areas you have identified.

Envious!

Hi, We are caravanners so maybe have more of a fixed route than with a MH but if, as Euror suggests, you get there  ASAP and then explore, or even if you dont, my suggestion is to use Google maps, Streetview and viaMichelin for planning.

Last week I found on viaMichelin that part of my route is closed so glad I checked!

We are off to Italy via Annecy this year and I have all the possible stops saved in Google maps and the roadmap from viaMichelin saved as pdf's on my ipad, as back up, and will also print it out as thats easier for my co-pilot!

If you are going to use Toll routes get an Auto Tag so much easier than using card or cash. Particularly in Motorhome when sometimes pay machines at wrong height. Not sure when in June you go so might be too late to order one.

New Tag in car having been changed for one with a dead battery!

As you say they are a great help and well worth the minimal cost to avoid the issues around paying tolls that are only obvious once to have to do it.

We tend to go outside of the main season but even so it can be busy and being able to sail through the automated lanes is an added bonus.

Michelin 914 Atlas Routier is very helpful,if you can get hold of one.It shows all of the Rest Areas distances between them, exits etcetera.I use ours in conjunction with the SatNav to plan a rest stop.As stated earlier aTag saves a lot of hassle at the Peage.Never sleep overnight at a motorway Rest Area. These days we tend to avoid the Autoroutes as you see/experience much more when travelling off of them. However when we were both working and on a tighter schedule we did use them.Since Retirement we are no longer so pushed for time,so we take our time....
